My Cock Family are from England. No Cornish link so far however, the family
were in North Wootten in Somerset from at least 1690 to 1859. Then my
GGGrandfather John Cock died in 1856 and his wife Charlotte Tucker died in
1859. Family tale was that they perished in a fire at the farm, but this
can't be true as the farmhouse is still in existence.
Children of that marriage were:
definates: John b.around 1847, William b.around 1845, Charles b.around
1849. Henry b.1853 who was my G.grandfather.
Then we believe sisters could have been Ann Norman, Maria and Charlotte, but
dates don't tie in for these.
John is believed to have gone to Australia on the ship Cornwallis in 1875,
but no trace of him once there.
A Great Aunt claims to have received a letter from him around 1920 when she
and her husband were emigrating to Canada, asking them to go to his farm in
Australia, but no further contact after that.
Any help would be appreciated.

I guess it depends upon who writes in. There are also virtually no UK
mentions. My Cornish gggrandmother was Eliza COCK, married Richard BUTTERS
an
agricultural labourer / wood ranger, son of Hugh BUTTERS of St Germans, son
of William BUTTERS. Richard and Eliza lived at Rame, Richard working for the
Mount Edgcumbe estate (as did their son Richard - also wood ranger). Havent
got much further yet but I will be getting information on COCK records from
the Cornwall Family History Society.

I thought I would start to post Web address that I find that might assist
people in their research. I have tried to post only addresses that contain
lists or family trees on line that include the surname the list is related
to. This seems to have upset a few people.
I thought I would throw it open to the list to see if anyone has any
objections.
Please let me know if you have any feeling on this, please include the list
surname as I do admin more than one surname and I am sending this letter to
all lists.

Hi,
That sounds great, but how much of it is AMERICIAN. I want to see Cornish
info to do with Cornwall, & Australia/New Zealand.
Most Cornish web sites I've been into only deal with AMERICA.
