Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello everyone,
There is now some web pages in connection with our list
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mylists/cock.htm
at the moment it just tells us the basics of using the list subscribing,
unsubscribing, GenBoard address, archive address etc.. I would like to add
more and would very much appreciate any suggestion that you might have. I
have listed some on the things I thought so here goes
brick wall page - I thought that we all hit brick walls and having a
dedicated page might be easier for people to assist us (not a
general query that could be posted to the query Board but a dead end i.e..
John COCK abt. 1808 Gwennap Cornwall
births - were we could register births or baptisms ( not yet support by
a GenBoard)
Marriages - registering of marriages (not yet support by a GenBoard)
Deaths - registering of deaths or burials (not yet support by a GenBoard
but no obituaries as this is supported by GenBoard)
I also thought we could post pictures maps or anything that people could
go and down load, perhaps leaving them up for a week or so.
You would not need to just post people from your tree but any scribed down
in the search.
When the pages are updated a message would be posted to the list. Please let
me know your feelings on this, even if it is that you think it is all a bad
idea.

Hello listers,
My ancestors of the Cock name stretch back to John Cock b circa 1765. On his
marriage entry he was introduced as 'from Brewham, Somerset'. I have not
been able to find him in the Baptism records of that parish, and assume that
he must have come from the Pitcombe or Batcombe families of COCKs. Having
lost a definite link to one of these I believe I am looking in vain for it,
but with this entry on the COCK list, I may become lucky. I am not sure how
I could prove it. There are definitely one or two John(s) who are about the
right year, and if they were correct it would take me back another two
generations through Abraham COCK to Abram COCK (Pitcombe) circa 1700. Any
body any ideas?
For those interested, my father changed his name from COCK to COCKS just
after I was born, so I was always known as 'COCKS', although my birth
certificate is certainly COCK.
There are over 200 family names on my family tree ranging from the PILLARS
of Dartmouth (Devon) to CLEMENTS & CHANDLERs north of Birmingham and into
Leicestershire. There are also Camerons from Scotland to Australia and much
more, be my guest and take a look. But please DO sign the quest book!
