Hello list, my first contribution and query !
I have many of the COCK names appearing in my family tree who were BDM in
Silton, Dorset during the 19th Century from the current church register
entries.
JOHN COCK who was married at Mells, Somerset to GRACE HYMAN, went to live in
Silton Dorset around 1800, but I haven't been able to confirm his birth
record.
The marriage record says John came from Brewham, Somerset. The Brewham
records do not show his birth, but there is a date space in the records for
the most likely period (1750-1760). The IGI 1984 shows a possible link with
a date of birth of September 14 1753. and the place of birth as Pitcombe.
(Pitcombe is quite close to Brewham).
If anyone is able to look up this IGI record and/or knows the source of the
entry I will be grateful if they would email me direct. There are other
links in the family to Bruton which is in the same geographical area, so
Pitcombe may be correct.
I shall be going to the Somerset Record Office in the not too far distant
future to search the Pitcombe register (if it exists for this period).
These and other names on my UK family tree can be seen on my WebPages.
