I am my 18th Great grandfather was King Robert the III of Scotland and I have a good deal of information on our Cochranes simply because they were of noble birth.
I am from the Elizabeth Cochrane/William Blair line. As some of you know, when Elizabeth married William part of the ageement was that William Blair take the Cochrane name (it would have died out b/c there was no living male heir) and inherit all the Cochrane lands etc.
From Scotland our Cochranes settled in Northern Ireland, Woodgrange County Down where they were granted lands again from King James. From there Robert Cochrane, (son of John Cochrane and Jane Beatty) and his wife Jane Law were the first of my line to settle in Chautauqua County NY. They resided in Westfield, NY.
Roberts son, Hugh Beatty ( HB as he was commenly called) and his cousin DeWitt Cochrane took off and ended up in WI, where they started a new town called New Westfield. They built schools and libraries and were quite active in the town and politics. HB was my 3rd great grandfather, his son was Leslie Emmerson Cochrane ( my 2nd great grandfather) and then we come to my great grandfather, William Leslie Cochrane.
I cannot share more than that because my grandfather is still living.
Eventually, some Cochranes moved onto SD and Canada. My line still resides in MN.
I'd be thrilled to connect with anyone who is related to my line of Cochranes.
