I am interested in John McCaughern, also called McCochrane, Caughern and McCahon. He was born about 1831 in Tamlaght and married Jane McAulay about 1850.
The only child I know they had for sure is my gggranfather Alexander, born about 1852 in church Tamlaght, and who married Catherine and Dunlop in the Finvoy Meeting House 13 June 1878, under the name Alexander McCahon. He was a widower, but I do not know who his first wife was.
Alexander and Catherine had 3 children that I know about, although there may more. My grandmother, Matilda Jane McClaw McCaughern born 21 April 1879 in Ballydonnelly. Her sister Elizabeth Ann McCaughern was born in Ballydonnelly on the 30 Oct 1884 and baptised in Rasharkin Presbyterian Church 1 March 1885.
The 3rd child was my uncle John, who according to his death certificate was born about 1889.
The family appear to have been in Rasharkin until the 1900's, when they moved to Scotland, where my granmother was very active in the Presbyterian Church at Dalmuir.
Any information on them, or on McCaugherns in general would be gratefully received.
Kind Regards
