Re: [Cochrane] Kolchman to Cochran(e)
by Cynthia Cochran Scheuer Jones
I found this information when doing research on Cochran's in the Old Swedes
Church (now Holy Trinity) in Delaware on books.google.com
"New Castle County, DE Marriages"
Cochran marriages at Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, DE
Elizabeth Cochran - Eliza F. Evans 4 May 1812
James Cochran - Elenor P. Barclay 14 July 1798 (some list this as 1789)
(Elenor Barclay died young and James Cochran married 2nd Catherine Van
Renssalaer Schuyler in 1822.)
John Cochran - Susan Martin 26 Jan 1840
John Cochran - Eliza Polk 26 Mar 1833
John T. Cochran - Margaret B. Pennington 9 Sep 1819
Joseph Cochran - Frances S. Lewis 18 Jan 1808
Robert Cochran - Rebecca Ryland 14 Apr 1808
Robert T. Cochran - Sophia A. Moody 17 Apr 1849
Robert T. Cochran - Elizabeth R. Moody 1 Oct 1825
William Cochran - Mary Humharg 21 Apr 1745 (could this be Humburg?)
William Cochran - Margaret Pluright - 26 Apr 1827
Edward Cochrane - Jemymy Garritson 6 Aug 1752
John Cockran - Mary Carr 10 Aug 1764
John Cockran - Catherine Willison 15 Dec 1774
Thomas Corcoran - Prudence Porsides - 26 Dec 1749
James Cochran - Elizabeth Fairies 10 Dec 1767
Patrick Cacharin - Gracey McNeal
"Genealogical Abstracts from Biographical and Genealogical History of
the..." p. 11
Cochran, pg. 92 (not sure what book they were referring to here)
All DE Cochrans are descended from Derick Kolchman (now Cochran) a founder
of the Labadist Colony.
Derick Kolchman is listed in 1698 Cecil County, MD (Dutch). He is listed in
several references on google books with the German - Dutch settlements in
DE, MD (Bohemia Manor, Cecil Co.), and PA.
Now the above statement can't be all true as James Cochran m. (1) Eleanor
Barclay and 2nd Catherine Van Renssalaer Schyler is the son of Dr. Gen. John
Cochran and Gertrude Schuyler. Which Cochran's listed in marriages are
Kolchman's and how many are true Cochran's?
