My GGrandfather was William Cochrane, born Feb. 9, 1831, in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He was the only child of William Cochrane (born 1785? from Dalry, Renfrew) and Mary McMillan (b. 1791? in Arran) They were married June 30, 1826 in Paisley. I do not have any information about their parents.
William Jr. immigrated to New York in 1856 and eventually settled in Brantford, Ontario.
Any additional information about these Cochranes would be appreciated.
Thanks, Rob Cochrane

Hello Listers:
I am still looking for the family of my ancestor, William COCHRAN, bc1825, son of ?COCHRAN and ?CRAWFORD.
In 1844 he left Belfast for New York City, where he left some uncles, and then came up to the Pembroke,
Ontario area in Canada.
In 1848 he married Margaret Ann MATHEWS in Pembroke, Ontario, and their children's names were: Margaret,
Elizabeth, Nancy, William (Jr.), Ann, Sarah, John and Jane. William Cochran farmed in the Pembroke, Ontario
area where he died in 1908. Margaret Ann Mathews/Matthews was the daughter of John and Margaret Mathews,
b1823, Dromara, County Down, Ireland.
Does anyone have a Cochran/e relative who arrived in New York City in 1844? Unfortunately I do not know the
names of William Cochran's parents, siblings or extended family.
Thanks for your time.
Alice Cochrane

Searching for others working on Jane Cochrane Borden Smith. Jane married a Thomas Borden and lived in Wisconsin, probably Dodge Co., during the 1850's. Her children are:
Junietta b. 1952 d 1854
Perry Adelbert b. 1854
William Albert b. 1854
Amanda b 1856
Thomas James b. 1859
Sarah b. 1863
Thomas must have died around 1860. I don't know what happened to the children, but Jane ended up in Snohomissh Co., Washington married to a James Smith.
Jane is buried in Monroe, Washington with her brother John. She died in 1909 and her brother in 1907.
My gg-grandmother, Eliza Ann Cochran is a sister to Jane, and according to Eliza's obituary in the Gary, South Dakota newspaper, she has more siblings than just Jane and John.
Eliza came from Westfield, NY, leaving there in 1850 with her husband and three children, Margaret, Emmett and Byron.
Her husband Robert and son Emmett died in the early 1850's in Dodge Co., WI. Somewhere around 1865 they moved to Mower Co., Minnesota and in 1872 to Deuel Co., South Dakota.
Would like to learn the names of Eliza'a siblings or more about the Borden and Smith families if anyone has that information.
Thanks
Jim Cochrane

Hello Sam,
I'm afraid I can't help you with your query. I don't know of anyone in any of the Cochrane families other than the ones I have mentioned in my various messages.
Unless Mary and her husband were still in England at the time of the 1841 or 1851 Census, I can't make any suggestions for you. The 1841 only gives an indication of the county/country of birth. However, the 1851 may possibly give a closer location, though often if it was not in England, it only says the country, rather than an exact place.
The other difficulty would be in finding the correct family, though, if you have names of some of the 11 children, that could pin them down. If you haven't got access to the census, I can help with that. I looked for the name in 1851 and there are two Mary Cochranes listed who were born around 1807. One, Mary Ann, has husband, James and several children, Robert, 20, David 16, Mary Ann, 12, James, 10 and George, 7. The other Mary Cochrane, just had husband, Robert. They were visitors to another different family. If you want more details, let me know.
Good hunting!
Rita
