[Cochrane] Sir William Cochran(e) and Robert Cochran(e) Earl of Mar 1482
by Cynthia Cochran Scheuer-Jones
I came across this in a google search. I heard about Robert Cochran(e) Earl of Mar being hung at Lauder Bridge in 1482 but not his one.
Sir William Cochran
"One of his (King James) favorites in particular, Sir William Cochran, an excellent musician, was executed at Lauder Bridge (1482) along with Robert Cochran, an architect". The ( ) are added by me.
("Constable Miscellany and Original and Selected Publications" 1828 pg 155.
Robert Cochran(e) according to a charter in the Charter Chest of the Earldom of Dundonald states that in 1452 Robert signed his lands over to his son Allan Cochran(e) to pursue his career as an architect. Robert was hanged at Lauder Bridge in 1482 in front of King James by jealous Lords (among them Archibald "Bell the Cat" Douglas who had pointed out Robert by latching onto a jewel Robert wore around his neck. The above reference is the first that I had heard of Sir William also being hanged.
