Hello Listers:
This is a repeat notice as I am having no luck in finding my ancestor. Some of the problem
is because we have so little knowledge about his family in Ireland.
My Great Grandather, William COCHRAN, bc1825, came from Belfast area (not sure if it
was County Antrim or County Down) and we believe his parents were small farmers. He
might have also come from a community not that far from Belfast. His mother's surname
was CRAWFORD but do not have the given names of William Cochran's parents.
He emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1844 via New York City where "he left some uncles".
He married Margaret Ann Matthews in 1848 in Ontario, Canada. She had come with her
family from Dromara area of County Down to Canada. William and Margaret Ann
(Mathews/Matthews) had these children: Margaret, Elizabeth, Nancy, William (Jr.), Ann,
Sarah, John and Jane.
William Cochrane died in Ontario in March, 1908. Unfortunately no record of the local
newspapers survived (because of a fire where it was published) so have not been able to
see an obituary.
Any information on my Cochran-Crawford ancestors will be very much appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Alice Cochrane
