Hi Desiree,
If you'd like more info, or the wording and all names from the back of the pictures (or even if you want copies) drop me a note to steve(a)marketingsolutions.com.au
I was cleaning these today before re-hanging them after having renos done, and thought the Cochrane family might be interested. The internet makes genealogy so much easier!
We have been looking at roots.com and confirmed a few details about our family.
Regards,
Steve Ebbott.

Thank you for your message Steve, I too am in Melbourne.
I don't have these names in the tree at the moment, but sometimes siblings are hard to track down and it is possible that John may have been a sibling of James COCHRANE.
I'm assuming your father bought these paintings here in Australia and if so I guess they were brought out by or sent to family members. It might explain what brought my COCHRANEs out to these shores...
It definately helps to have names though so I will do a bit more research on John & Eliza, and also Harold and Robert, something might crop up - always easier to search for someone when you know their Christian name!
Thank you for getting in touch; I will see what I can find out.
Regards
Desiree

Hi Desiree,
I live in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
I have two small portraits in oil on wood that once belonged to my late father. Both have hand written notes on the back by Robert Cochrane dated 1928. Dad bought the paintings, so I don't believe my family has a Cochrane connection.
One portrait is of Eliza Cochrane, painted between 1820 and 1823, when she was 17. The note says she married John Cochrane, born in Paisley in 1800 or 1801. It shows her maiden name but it's hard to read. Robert's note states the information is "from Jane Cochrane's letter 25.11 1908."
The second portrait is of Harold (or Richard Harold?) "only son of Grandpapa Harold, mother's father. [Therefore not Harold Cochrane]. Richard went to America with his wife, Aunt Jane..." The note says he died about 1856.
I can give you more information if the pictures appear relevant to your search.
Regards,
Steve.
Hi All,
Today being Remembrance Day, I was thinking about the ultimate sacrifice some men and women of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam made.
So if any of your COCHRANE relations served in a military in one of the wars or conflicts and paid the ultimate price, please tell us a little about him. Even if your relative did not pay the ultimate price but served his country, please tell us about him.
Lest We Forget
Ken
