Robert Houghton (Cochrane) lived in Ramsgate, England. He first married Sarah Petley D.1830, Marr. 15 Feb 1818, St. Lawrence-in-Thanet, Ramsgate. UK. Their children are John, Nathaniel George, James Henry, and Sarah Mary Houghton. 2nd wife Lucy Allen B 1798, D 9 Aug 1846 NZ. Marr. 15 Mar 1831 St. Pancrea, London, England. Their children Frances Stratford Elizabeth, Jessie (my line), and Allen Patrick Houghton. All were born before leaving England in 1839 for NZ, Jessie was 5yrs and Allen 1yr. I have their dates etc. if you want them. Robert's father is believed to be Thomas Cochrane, but not proven. I have a new found cousin in NZ that is working on that and he is also working on the 2nd edition book of the Houghton line .I'm not sure when it will be finished. Robert Cochrane (Houghton) isn't listed as a child in Thomas C. family tree but maybe it just hasn't been found yet. I've had an email from a Cochrane desendent that says it's not so but I must still pursue this!
old family story. I just want the work to be completed. I'm not interested in being related to anyone rich and famous. Robert is said to have changed his name to his mothers family name of Houghton after an arguement with his father Thomas who wanted him to married a certain lady but Robert did not. Keep in touch.

I may have, I have a huge list of people in our family tree but I haven't been able to enter them all into Legacy as yet. Can yuo tell me anything else about him? As I do have Robert Cochranes in the tree but I havent found out who they married yet.
Is there anything else you could tell me, for example the year he was born or came over roughly? What was his fathers name?
Of course, the most famous Thomas Cochran was Sir Thomas Cochran who fought the Spanish in Europe and South America. He is a well-known hero in Chile, Peru, Brazil, etc. for pushing Spain out of the new world. He was from Scotland. There have been many books written about him, one an autobiography.

Hello,
I would like to know if anyone, especially anyone in the British Isles, is researching the ancestors and descendants of:
Robert COCHRAN [b. 1799 d. 31 May 1880, bur. Eglinton Church Cemetery lived in Faughanvale, Co. Londonderry, N.I.] and Elizabeth CROOKS [b. 1811 d. 4 or 7 May 1883, bur. Eglinton Church Cemetery]
I am an American descendant of their daugtber Elizabeth COCHRANE, bap. 9 Jan 1848, m. 11 Feb 1868, James FERGUSON who d.1906. Elizabeth died just before 1896 which was the year her son Henry Louis and daughter Alberta emigrated because husband James was too sick with asthma to care for them.
Regards, Joan

Currently researching Edward James Cochrane and family. I am descendant from his daughter Anne (Annie) Jane who married James John Wootton in 1898 Walgett, NSW.
Is some confusion about his name, could be James Edward. Married Hannah Pittman.
Have Edward's father as Robert, mother Fanny, although this could be incorrect.
Annie was born 25 November 1875, Walgett, NSW - I believe all of her siblings were born in Gunnedah, NSW.
Siblings I have:
Alice ME Cochrane
John James Cochrane
Robert G E Cochrane
William H Cochrane
Thomas A Cochrane
Mary A Cochrane
Have a photos of Annie and Alice, none of others unfortunately.
