I don't see anything that leads me to believe they are the same family. Our Cochran's came from Downpatrick. I don't have any records that prove that. I don't know how to get records from Ireland, but an aunt of mine was over there in the 50's and did some research. Apparently she didn't find anything conclusive. The stories we have came from my g-grandfather when he was very elderly. I have been able to track them once they got to Westfield, NY.

I also have looked into Cochrnes who were born in Ireland , rather than
Scotland. It is not a common name in Ireland. Our ggrandfather, Michael Cochrane
was born in 1830s in Tullyroe, in Co. Roscommon. My husband and I found that
family when we were there in 1990. At that time there were Cochranes in the S.
Irish phone book only at the Roscommon family and also in Dublin where the
Cochranes there were part of the Roscommon family. There were also Cochranes
in Tyrone. We had heard that all came from scotland, and were protestant, but
those who moved South away from Tyrone, may have become Catholic, as had ours.
Michael was one of about 6 kids, including a John. John came to the
states in the 1860, fought in the Civil War, and returned to Ireland to take
over the farm from his elderly parents. He raised children in Ireland and died
there. His descendents are the Roscommon family.
Michael came first to New Jersey and some of his children were born
there. He also left some siblings there when he came to California ( San
Rafael) in 1868. He is my husband's great grandfather. Hope this helps. Nancy

I am searching for descendants of John Cochran who was born in Ireland in 1822, came to the USA in about 1839 with his brother, Robert and Father, Hugh. The settled in Cochranton, PA for about four years before moving to Westfield, New York. John died in 1853 in Westfield. I don't know if he had any children, but would like to connect with some of his descendants if there are any. Robert was my gg-grandfather. He married Eliza Ann Cochran and left Westfield in 1850 for Dodge Co., Wisconsin. In about 1865 they moved to Racine, in Mower Co., Minnesota and in 1872 settled in Deuel Co., South Dakota. Robert died while the family was in Wisconsin, as did a son.

Interested in Thomas Cochran and his son Robert. There was another Robert in
the same area who married Anthony Pouncey's widow. Would like to find out
about him.

Thanks for info. My family came from Kentucky and Michigan. I had an uncle James Robert Cochrane who had a son about 1942. I think the son was a junior. Uncle James Robert Cochrane also had a daughter. I'm pretty sure our ancestors emigrated from Scotland, but don't know when so I need earlier info to track them from Virginia into Kentucky.

There was a Jessie Cochrane who never married who was born to a James Cochrane
and lived in Owen Sound, Canada. I have a 72-year old cousin, Doug
Cochrane, (several times removed) who lives in Owen Sound who knew Jessie Cochrane
because she was either his aunt or great-aunt. You might contact him: Doug
Cochrane, 2287 7th Ave. W, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada N4K5L8. He doesn't have
e-mail. Good luck. Ladd Cochrane, Greeley, CO
