Hi Marge,
Thank you very much. I've tried to Google 'crash lace' but didn't get
anywhere. It might be a mistranscription though.

Hi Nancy:
My family is Cochrane also...but don't think we're related...However, I was
reading your email
and thought I could help. It says in the bible 'retired from manufactory of
crash lace in easy circumstances at
Pater...near New York. Paterson, New Jersey (where I was born) was known
for its silk manufacturing.
it is not far from New York...14 miles or so. Next time I am in the
Paterson Library, I'll check out what Crash Lace is.

Searching for descendants of Thomas Cochrane b. 18 Jan 1774 in Paisley,
Renfrewshire, son of Thomas Cochrane 1733-1804 and Ann Kerr d. 1789.
According to an old family bible, Thomas "retired from manufactory of crash
lace in easy circumstances at Pater...(?) near New York. " I am descended
from one of his sisters.

Bev,
Not to worry. I hope my information is of some help to you. Funny you should mention the suburb Richmond as that is where a few of us Truscotts' lived. I lived there with my family and my aunt & uncle lived a short distance from us, also in Richmond.
Got luck with the rest of your hunting
Robyn

Unfortunately for you, Robyn, you have given me more information than I'm able to give you - thanks for that though.
My ancestor, daughter of WILLIAM TRUSCOTT and MARY TONKIN was SARAH, who married JOSEPH HOSKING REED (b 1847 Cornwall) 12 April 1873 at the Weslyan Parsonage, Lydiard Street, Ballaarat, Victoria, Australia.
I have no information re how Sarah came to Australia.
Joseph came to Australia as an infant with his parents, RICHARD REED and EMMA REED nee HOSKING on the "Wairappa".
Prior to his marriage Joseph was living at Steiglitz, a suburb of Ballaarat, where he and Sarah continued to live after their marriage. They later moved to 133 Elizabeth Street, Richmond, a suburb of Melbourne. Joseph died 1906, aged 59 in North Fitzroy, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. (I have copies of the marriage and death certificates).
I hope this may shed some light on your search.
Regards
Bev Beazley nee Reed.

Hi Bev,
I can't help you with Cochranes but I can with TRUSCOTT.
To this end I can help you with some detail however the information you can give me in return may lead to a huge past.
I have the death certificate of William Truscott who was a miner. He died at the age of 51 in 1875. He was married to Mary Tonkin. He died from a disability from Rheumatism. He was buried on 1st January 1876.At his time of death Children were Amelia 28 years, Elizabeth (deceased) William 24, Sarah 21, Mary Ann (dead) Hannah 18, I think Amelia Jane (dead) Thomas 16, Samuel 14 and John 12.
This is your William Truscott, however I'm not sure he is mine as there were 2 William Truscotts both died within a very short time of each other. I'm hoping that you can give me some information from your end on William. I haven't followed through with Mary as I am unsure if I am going left field.
Hoping to hear from you
Robyn Evans nee Truscott

Hi Agnes, and Carol- I have to put my 2 cents in-
James Hamilton had wife, Mary, do not know maiden name. They lived in NYC, had 5 children according to what I have been able to figure out.
Charlotte Hamilton- b 1865, married Charles Junior in about 1881.
Mary Hamilton- b. 1870
Francis Hamilton b. abt 1872
Annie Hamilton b. abt. 1878
William Hamilton b. about 1879 ( September)
Are any of these in your photo album, or history, Carol?
Our Cochranes are from Tullyroe in County Roscommon. One of their family is
now residing in Dublin also. No Hughs that I know of , but Patricks,
Michaels, Johns, Nancy Praetzel in Kentfield, CA
