Hello Jan:
None of the names you mentioned ring any bells here. I can only trace down
through William who was born in Philadelphia on Dec. 1, 1818 or 1819. It was
his son Andrew who had two sons William or Wills and Charles Arthur Cochran.
Charles is my grandfather. He was born somewhere in Conn. and his brother
William or Wills was born in Meriden, CT.
It is kind of hard to find anything in CT unless you know the town and then
go look there.

w4ppn,
Your Cochrans seemed to use the same names as mine including James, John G.,
William, Andrew, etc. Does Hugh Cochran and Hinretta mean anything to you?
Mine were in Lawrence/Independence Co, AR.

Looking for information on Rose Boorse Cochrane, married to James Cochrane. Rose was born on 3/1/1922, died 3/9/1944. Her parents are Genevieve Lynch Boorse and William G. Boorse. All lived in the Philadelphia area, although I am not sure where they are originally from. Any info would be appreeciated. I'm specifically interested in if Rose had any children, brothers or sisters, or living relatives or finding the cause of Rose's death.

Hi Cheryll
My ggfather David Cochrane and his siblings were all born in Tulliallan Parish (Kincardine-on-Forth) which is 87 miles Soth by Southwest of Kirkcowan and 46 miles West by Southwest from Dalry. I assume that David's father Robert Cochrane came from elsewhere as there are no Cochrane graves in the old Tulliallan Kirkyard. He was a sailor and presumably came to the area to make his living sailing out of Kincardine-on-Forth. Robert married Elizabeth McFarlane in Tulliallan and the McFarlanes are well represented in the graveyard. Robert had one known brother William who married Elizabeth McFarlane's sister Mary by whom he had four children: Mary; William Drysdale, Mary and David.
Pity we can't make a connection
Kevin

Kevin...My Cochranes were farmers and shepherds in the southern part of Scotland (Kircudbright and Wigtown). I'm not sure where Perthshire is, but with the name similarities, they could be cousin's. Unfortunately, I don't have any info on my Robert's parents so I'm not sure how to make a connection. Did any of your Cochranes ever go south?...Cheryll

I am intrigued by your post, mainly because of the name similarities. My Robert Cochrane was born abt 1810 and married Elizabeth Grace McFarlane on 25 Dec 1836 in Tulliallan, Perthshire. Children were Mary Rennie Cochrane, b. 5 June 1836, David Cochrane, b. 14 September 1838 (my ggrandfather), Archibald Cochrane, b. 26 August 1842, Robert Cochrane, b. 29 November 1844, and James Dinnel Cochrane, b. abt 1850 (became Mayor on Montreal in 1902).
Little is known about the father Robert. In the Census of 1841 the family is shown as living in Tulliallan with Elizabeth as Head of Household and children Mary and David also listed. Mary is shown as age 4 and David as age 2. In David Cochrane's Death Certificate his father Robert's Profession/Occupation is shown as "Sailor".
At the time of the 1841 Census then, Robert may well have been at sea.
In the Census of 1851 the family is shown as living at Killagie Street, Tulliallan, with Elizabeth as Head of Household. However the entry also says she is a widow, so Robert probably died in 1850 as the youngest son was 1 year at the 1851 Census. The children are listed as Mary, age 14 occupation Server, David age 12, occupation Errand Boy, Robert age 6 and James Dinnel age 1. Archibald is not listed in either Census although he would have been 9 at the 1851 Census (IGI entry Batch: C113977 Source: 1040193). He may have died at a young age.
I am wondering if there could be a connection between our Cochranes.
