Hi List!
Is anyone out there researching Cochran(e)s who settled in Alabama in the
1800s?
As family tradition explains, my "Irish" (no proof, only stories) Cochran(e)
ancestor came to this country through Charles Town, SC.
I have:
Thomas Cochran b. 1787 SC m. Sarah;
Elison Cochran b. 1820 GA m. Elvira M. Jane Ward (Full-blood Cherokee); Dr.
William Jefferson Cochran b. 1847 AL m. 1) Margaret Jane Stephens (my great
grandmother), 2) Josephine Gibbs and 3) Frances Louisiana Beauchamp;
Dr. Joseph Edward Cochran b.1882 AL m. Bertie Mae Green (my grandparents).
I have lots more information and would be willing to share.
As you can see, my direct line migrates from SC to GA to AL as land opened up.
Do any of you have similar Cochran(e) migrations?

In 1875, IN Edinburgh, Alexander Storm married Annie Cochrane. The family
legend/joke was that she was illegitimate, and certainly on the marriage
certificate no father of the bride is shown while the mother, Elizabeth
Cochrane, is shown as "now married to John Ferguson, blacksmith." So far I
have been unable to come up with a birth or baptism record for Annie. She is
not either Annie Brown Cochrane or Annie Banks Cochrane, both of whom were
born at the right time but to respectable married couples. A Elizabeth was
about 25 when Annie was born, she may have told a potential baptizing
minister with an over-moralistic streak to take a hike. Or, theologically,
she could have baptized the child herself if she wanted to. Or she could
have been outside Scotland at the time of Annie's birth, perhaps working in
England. The family's legend/joke was that she introduced into the family
its only gentle blood! Does anybody have any leads on Annie or Elizabeth?
Best,
John Storm Roberts
Here is my line. Any connections or information on Thomas's parents or other
information would be appreciated.
