Hi Wendy. I just found this in my notebook from last trip to library-
(Rowan Co Public Library, Salisbury, NC)
There is a very skinny green notebook there called something like
"CHRONICLES OF COCHRANS" Compiled by Ida Cochran Haughton in 1915.
Has info on a WILLIAM COCHRAN on pg 60./ Genealogy of JAS.COCHRAN
on pg. 72. and the death of WM.COCHRAN on page 57. I doubt these
are my family, but possibly related somewhere along the line back in
IRE or SCT??? Also has info on a family name ZANE which I thought to
be interesting as my husband has ancestors from Germany in that
time period named ZANY.
I only jotted down a little because I assumed they are not my Cochrans. Here
is what I have:
William COCHRAN was killed by Indians at the siege of Ft.Henry at Wheeling
on 11-13 of Sept. 1782.
Pg. 72 Genealogy of JAMES COCHRAN, s/o WILLIAM
JAMES COCHRAN married ELIZABETH WOODS in or before 1800. She and her
brother were rescued from a band of Indians. She was reared by the
family of EBENEZER ZANE who led the rescue party that saved them.
JAMES COCHRAN and "BETSY" WOODS(she was born ca. 1772) had 13 children!!!
They were married ca. 1800. JOHN COCHRAN was b.1801;
JAMES,b.1802; JANE/JENNIE,b.1804; ROBERT,b.1806; THOMAS,b.1808;
NANCY,b.1809; WILLIAM,b.1811; ZANE,b.1813; MARY/POLLY,b.1814;
ELEANOR/NELLY,b.1816; ELIZABETH/BETSY,b.1822; ALEXANDER, "Little
ALECK", b.1820; VIOLINDA, b.1818.
That's all I have, but perhaps this can help someone. Bonnie

I found a very interesting book at the library:
I found a listing for a JOHN McBAYN in a book called "TO MD FROM OVERSEAS"
by Harry Wright Newman at the Rowan Co Public Library in
Salisb.NC ALSO listed was a JOHN COUCHAN (My great grandpa MCVOY
married a COCHRANE/COCHRAN)in MD, but my MCVOY was from FL.
This is SAD! "AUCTION OF JACOBITE(SCOTTISH LOYALIST) PRISONERS"
On pg 1, SCOTTISH prisoners sold in MARYLAND by ENGLISH. Many JACOBITE
citizens who tried to put the STUARTS on the throne of BRITAIN in 1715-1746
were captured, shackled and shipped to MARYLAND. Many of
these families were of "ancient and honorable lineage..."
Both JOHN McBAYN and JOHN COCHAN are listed on page 3 on a list of "REBELLS"
transported to MD on the ship 'FRIENDSHIP OF BELFAST." 8-20-1716.
Just something interesting and very sad about our history.

Hi All,
Hoping someone will have Jane in their family tree. This is all I have on the
Cochrane line.
Jane Cochrane b. 1742, d. 1816 & Capt. Benajah Strong b. 1740, d. 1809.
Nothing more on the Cochrane line.
