WAR OF 1812 MUSTER ROLLS
When the United States declared war on Great Britain in 1812, Congress
authorized the President to accept and organize volunteers in order to
win
the
war. This database is a listing of men mustered into the armed forces
between
1812 and 1815. Taken from records in the National Archives, each record
includes
the soldier's name, company, rank at time of induction, rank at time of
discharge, and other helpful information. It provides the names of
nearly
600,000 men. For researchers of early American ancestors who may have
served in
the military, this can be a helpful source of information.

Subject: HUNTERS in Torryburn
Many thanks Brad for taking the time to send me information on a HUNTER
in
Torryburn. I am not sure if there is a connection.
So far I have John Lawson HUNTER who married Helen COCHRANE, in
Torryburn,
1814. John was a weaver. They had the following children :
Ann, b. 1815; Janet b. 1821; Elisabeth (Betsy), b. 1823, d. 1840; James,
b.
1825, Margaret, b. 1827, and twins John Lawson and Henry Woodmiston, b.
1832. All born Torryburn. Henry W. is my g-grandfather.
The above John Lawson HUNTER was born Feb 1790, Claysides, Fife, died
Jan
1833. His parents were Patrick HUNTER and Elizabeth LAWSON who married
1785,
Torryburn. Patrick was a baker in Limekilns, Fife, 1786-88 at least,
then
later a tenant farmer at Claysides then at Craigflower, which are near
Torryburn.
Patrick and Elizabeth had two other sons, Patrick/Peter, born 1786,
Limekilns, and James, b. 1788, Limekilns.
I have traced this family back to about 1700 if anyone is interested.
I haven't found descendants for these Hunters yet, except for those of
Henry
W. Even his twin seems to have disappeared, except for the 1881 census
where
he is at Greenock with no visible family. Any help would be most
welcome.

Subject: [IGW-L] Location Name
Hello Friends,
I have much informatioin of the Cochrans [William, John, James, etc.] of
Donegal County from the early 1600's to the middle 1700's when they came
to USA. What I would like help on is---they lived in and near
Carrowkeel. My map which I obtained while in Ireland last year lists the
spelling as Carrowkeel. Some on the internet from Ireland lists it as
Kerrykeel. Which is correct? If they are the same, does anyone know why
the change?
If anyone is researching the Cochrans in that area and time frame, let
me know, maybe I can help.
Hope everyone has a very nice and Happy New Year.

Subject: FORDs in AUSTRALIA
I'm looking for Fords who emigrated from England to
Australia, probably in the 1890-1900 time frame. I
know that an Alice Ford Cockran/Cockram emigrated in
that time period and I suspect that one or more of her
brothers (Samuel, Sidney, Henry)also emigrated to OZ.
I was reading an e-mail forwarded to me by my Welsh
cousin that refers to a Clive Ford being present when
Alice died in the 1950's in the Melbourne area, if I
recall the facts correctly.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Bob Ford
