My grandfather's name was Wiley Cochran. He was the youngest son of John Franklin and Charity Cochran. Gus was my grandfather's half brother, as was Gus's older brother Walter. I believe both were born in Alabama to John Franklin's first wife, Emma. I don't see an Alex or Ben in that generation of Cochran on my tree. I did check the Cochran family genforum site and there is mention of a Gus B. Cochran living in Pickens / Central area of SC in 1900. Living with him are Jonna A., Ruth and Abbie Rochester. Here is the link, if you want to further your research about that Gus.http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?forum=cochran&url=/c... Cochran&boolean=AND. All of my Cochrans came from S.C., Georgia and Alabama.
Good luck !
Pamela Cochran Winterburn

Emma, do you have any other information related to the siblings of Alex and Ben. My mother Helen Cochran (Daughter of John and Bessie) remembers Uncle Alex (she thinks they referred to him as "Son") and an "Uncle Cap". My grandfather was also an iron mouilder. His shop was in Langley, S.C. and stood until the 80s. We have one of the last Jockeys made by our Grandfather John in the early 60s before he took ill with TB.
Thank You, I will share any other information I am able to locate. bbeard59(a)gmail.com

Thank you so much for the reply. Can you give me your Grandfather's name or any other information. My mother knows very little about her descendants.
Your Gus may very well be "Uncle Gus" to my mother. Her grandfather Ben was born in 1879. She remembers brothers Alex and another referred to as Uncle Cap who was in Louisiana. I am interesting in trying to determine whether these gentlemen were all brothers and perhaps sons of John Franklin.
Alex and Ben both used the middle name "Maston".
Thank you very much,
Bill

This is a very old post so I assume you've found a lot more info about Thomas Wills Cochran. It looks like he returned to CA after the war and died in 1973. I would love any information you have about your grandfather, Thomas Dettra Cochrane. Ida Dettra was my great-aunt and I never heard much about what happened to Thomas as an adult. I have a picture of Thomas as a young man with my grandmother and my dad and my Aunt Kathryn at some lake in PA. I know he was living with Ida and Earl in the 1940 census but don't know what happened to him after that. Ida's sister, Helen, also had a child by one of the soldiers training at the Allentown camp. This baby died sometime in 1918, I think of the flu. Supposedly, the father of this child was killed in the war. Interesting family history!
