And actually I just called my dad who told me Tennie had 16 children and Aunt Hazel was a twin, but her twin either was born a stillborn or died shortly thereafter. Tennie lived to be 94 years old and was the only midwife in Slidell, delivering the majority of babies born back then. He said Tennie was still sharp as a tack until the day she died.

Elizabeth Dillard Cochran, W. W.'s second wife, was one of my Great-great grandmothers. I have some information on this line that I would share if you are still researching. W. W.'s father was Wallace G., as far as I have been able to find. Mother was Susanne McCannon (?) -- would have to dig back in some old files to verify that.

"The Last Rites. The funeral of the late Rev. W. S. Cochran took place this morning. At Masonic Hall a large crowd had assembled to listen to the burial services of the Knights Templar. The services were very impressive and were conducted by Sir Knight James Roney. Rev. A. J. Nelson offered prayer and a choir furnished music. June 9, 1883: Died, obituary published same day (!)
"CALLED AWAY
The Death of Rev. W. S. Cochran in This City
Again the grim reaper Death has visited our community and selected as his victim Rev. W. S. Cochran of this city. He had been ailing for some time past, but up to the hour of his death, at 4:40 this morning, his sanguine friends had hope for his recovery. He had been a resident of this city for the past three years and during that time he had endeared himself to all with whom he came in contact. If a generous and kind spirit should win for one the esteem and affection of his fellow men, certainly William Simonton Cochran was justly entitled to the high regard in which he was held. No voice will disturb the expression of regret at his sudden taking off. His death will not only be regretted by his friends but by the entire community. No more will his pleasant face and familiar greeting be met with. He was devoted to his religious teachings, which he maintained with christian dignity, and was always ready to respond to a call from the sick or oppressed. He was in every s!
ense a christain soldier, who was always battling for the right and his memory will be kept bright by the people of this city. He was an Episcopal divine of great promise and it is sad to think he should be cut down in the bloom of his life. He was of a cheerful disposition never giving away to idle cares and always looking at the bright side of everything. By his death the people have lost an able citizen and his family a kind husband and indulgent father. While in charge of the Episcopal Church, by his numerous christian virtues and noble qualities, he cemented himself to his congregation who will feel the loss deeply. He largely identified himself with Masonic work, and at the time of his death was Eminent Commander of Naval Commandery, No. 19, Knights Templar of this city, and it was due to his exertions that a commandery was formed here. He was one of the most active members of the Masonic fraternity and devoted a large part of his time to the furtherance of the !
work. Previous to his death Mr. Cochran expressed a desire to be buri
ed at Mountain View cemetery, Oakland, and in accordance with this request his body will be taken to Oakland. Knights Templar burial service will be held in Masonic Hall at 9 A. M., Monday morning, after which the remains will be escorted to the boat and from thence to the final place of interment. The deceased was chap- lain of the fifth battalion, national guard of California, attached to company D, Vallejo Rifles, and word has been sent to headquarters notifying them of his death. He was also a member of Alta Lodge, No. 2,013 K. of H. of this city, and commanded the respect of all by his generous and unassuming ways. He was a native of Philadelphia and at the time of his death was thirty-nine years of age. He leaves a wife and one child, and is not known to have any relatives in this state. The flags on Masonic Hall and Knights of Honor Hall have been at half-mast to-day in respect to the memory of the deceased, An autopsy is being held this afternoon to determine th!
e cause of death."

c. 1881-1882: Beginning of Naval Commandery, No. 19 (Was he one of the original organizers?)
Naval Commandery, No. 19, stationed at Vallejo, Solano County, obtained a dispensation on December 10, 1881, and was chartered April 14, 1882. There were twenty-five names on the dispensation, but eight petitioners, including Sir William Carter, Generalissimo, elected to retain membership in their former Commanderies, and were not named in the charter. There are now seventy-five members of the Naval Commandery, and ten Past Commanders. On its roll have been the names of many distinguished Naval officers, one of its present Sir Knights being Commander Joseph Bullock Coghlan, who, as commanding officer of the United States Cruiser Raleigh, was attached to the fleet of Admiral Dewey, and participated in the memorable battle of Manila Harbor, May 1, 1898.

I found out that W. S. Cochran's "boss," the Reverend John Henry Ducachet Wingfield, the Missionary Bishop of Northern California, wrote a book entitled "Northern California Mission" sometime between 1881-1898. It's highly likely that W. S. Cochran is mentioned or described since he was the Secretary of the Northern California Mission.
Only a few copies are available -- One library is about 45 min. from me, so MAYBE, sometime, I could take a look at it. (Sorry to sound wishy-washy, but I don't want to make promises that I might not be able to keep! :) )
I've also worked out much of W.S. Cochran's "timeline" and I'm going to post it here soon...
