I am a descendant of Wm. Crittenden Cochran, b. 1814 in Somerset, Ky. After over a half century of genealogical research I have only found the following. Wm.'s father, Glass, has not been found in Ky. records. A renown Cochran/e researcher, Miles Cochran, and I believe that 'Glass' is a chosen nickname (from Glasgow, Scotland) and that he was probably a runaway and preferred to remain incognito in the New World records. The closest Cochran records that we found to fit the years involved led us to a descendant of the 10th Earl of Dundonald who was believed to have fled Gr. Britain as a stowaway to America. The place and date of William Crittenden's birth are contained in notes left by my grandfather Albert D. Cochran, Sr., his son. The notes also state that Glass was born in Dublin. The only other Glass Cochran I have checked on is of a family that settled in Mass. I could find no connection there. The origins of Glass remain a mystery; but, he was likely among the p!
rotestant families who fled Scotland to avoid religious persecution. Ironically enough, such families were given sanctuary in Ireland and rarely intermarried with Catholics. My contact: 2377cochranek(a)comcast.net

Hello,
I am interested in KY Cochrans as I have a second great grandfather who said he was born there. His name was William Crittenden Cochran and claimed to have been born in Somerset, Pulaski, KY around 1814. The rest of what I "know" is that he claimed his father's name was "Glass", which may have been a nickname. Glass was perhaps born around 1784. William, known as Crit, claimed Glass was from Dublin, Ireland and that he was a runaway...when is not known, but if William was born 1814, it had to have been before that time.
There is little likelihood that my William fits in your family line, but we've been searching a very long time for Crit's (Crit) parents. If your searches into KY Cochrans has turned up anyone that could be a candidate for Crit's father, I would be most grateful for any leads.
Thank you.

Two Cochran sisters born in Indiana Co., PA married 2 soldiers after the Civil War and the families moved to Kansas. Both were daughters of Robert and Caroline Miller COCHRAN. Robert's parents, John and Margaret Cochran immigrated to Westmoreland Co., PA in 1811 from Co. Antrim, IRE.
Margaret Cochran (1846-1913) married David Kelley RANKIN and lived in Clay Co., Kansas.
Mary Cochran (1848-1924) married Benjamin Franklin Marlin and lived in Saline Co., KS.
Family tradition says that this Cochran family was related to Sir Walter Scott.
Is anyone connected to these two sisters? If so, I would be happy to share research which I have done with the help of Rankin researchers.

I'm not sure if you are still reviewing your tree but will give this a try. I am a granddaughter of Chester Arthur Strain, son of William Wallace. Would love any information that you might have on these older generations. I am a novice (started researching just a few weeks ago in Nov). I have an uncle still living (101 yo) He is the oldest son of Chester son of W W Strain. I live in MN. How might we be related?

Jim & list members,
Rootsweb is OWNED by Ancestry dot com. It has nothing to do with the
politicians or bureaucrats. Rootsweb itself, including their "World Connect
Project" could at any time become under the paid for access Ancestry dot
com umbrella. If and when you submit data to Rootsweb, you should be aware
that they then own the copyright on your research. You have given them the
data for which they can and will charge others to access. Don't like it?
Take the issue up with them! Politicians are not behind this, greedy
corporate executives are behind it.

I am descendant to the Earl of Dundonald. John Loudon McAdam was the son of James McAdam and Susanna Cochrane, niece of the 7th Earl of Dundonald. John McAdam was a great relative of my grandfather. After the death of his father James McAdams, John Loudon McAdams went to New York in care of his uncle, William McAdam. He owned McAdam & Co. John eventually married Gloria Nicoll of Suffolk, New York. They returned to Scotland 1783. John and William helped found the New York Camber of Commerce. Members included Samuel James and Paul Revere. I hope this is enough information.
Yours secerely,
Glenda Doell
