My great grandfather was Roy Cochran, son of John S. and Mary E. I am currently researching this line and would appreciate any information, starting with John S. and Mary E. I know John was born in 1853 in Darke Co., OH. I have little on Mary.

I'm interested in researching this line, as well. My great grandfather was Roy Cochran, b 1890 in Indiana, d. 1970 in Preble County, OH. I beleive Roy's parents were John S. and Mary E. Lantz, son of Amos. Does this work with any of your research?

As a follow-up... I found that Fred Cochran's full name was Thomas Fred Cochran. I found his family there in St. Clair County, MO - his father was John Cochran, Jr, born 22 Jun 1835 in Pittsburgh, PA. He married a Louisa Margarette Hall (various spellings also have her as Margaret Louisa Hall, Louesa Hall, Margaret Hall).
John, Jr's father was John, Sr who was bon around 1810 in Virginia... and that's where I'm stuck now.
Does anyone know of any info on John Cochran who married Mary "Polly" Miller (both born in VA) who then moved to Missouri?

Hi,
Edward and Nathan are in my line also and quite a few greats back. There has been a lot of controversy over whether Samuel or Nathan was Edward's father. I am pasting over some pretty compeling evidence that Edward's father was Nathan. Although Edward and Nathan seem to have gone by the name Cockram, I think they at some point in their lives were still using Cockerham as there is a copy of a land grant in the Library of Virgina referring to Edward as Edward Cockerham. He later sold the same tract of land as Edward Cockram. Hope this helps.

Subject: [VAFLOYD] Edward and Nathan Cockram

A while back I posted to the Rootsweb Patrick County, Virginia website an
article in which I proposed that Edward Cockram who died in Franklin
County, Virginia in 1816 was the son of Nathan Cockram who died in Henry
County, Virginia about 1778. That article can be found at:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/patrick/bios/cockram1.txt
In this article it is shown that Walters Dunn (sometimes it looks like
Waters Dunn) along with Humphey Scoggin and Thomas Edwards inventoried the
estate of Nathan Cockram (Henry Co., VA. WB 1. pg. 9). The following year
the same three are ordered to lay off the dower of Sarah Harris, who is
apparently Nathan Cockram's remarried widow (Henry Co., Va. Order Book 2,
page 59). I have been unable to find any record of this until today.
While going thru micro film copies of the Henry County, Va. "Loose Papers",
also called "Determined Cases", I found paperwork relating to an action
brought by Edward Cockram on the 26th day of February, in the tenth year of
the Commonwealth (1787, this is currently the 223rd year until 1 July 2000)
against William Harris, alledging he was owed L3.11.3. The sherriff was
unable to serve the summons, not finding Harris in his Balliwick, so the
matter was apparently dropped. However, as evidence of the debt Edward
Cockram submitted a tiny slip of paper that reads:
"The Ballance due Edw.d Cockrum by Devision
of His Fathers Estate is --------17.6.0
at 5. for one is 3.11.3. Spcea
Dec.m 12th 1785 Walters Dunn"
(HCVA Determined Cases, Reel 10B, frame 0353)
In Henry County Deed Book 3, pg. 144, on 7 December 1784, William Harris of
Henry County conveys to Peter Storm of the same, 111 acres on Shooting
Creek. Joining in the deed is William Harris's wife, Sarah, who relenquishes her dower.
So, given that Walters Dunn was to lay off the dower of Sarah Harris in the
estate of Nathan Cockram, and as there were no other Cockram estates in
Henry County, Virginia at that time, and that Edward Cockram is bringing
suit against the husband of Sarah Harris to get (apparently) the interest
due on his delayed inheritance, I would say this should indicate that the
father of Edward Cockram was Nathan Cockram, who died in Henry County, Va.
about 1778.

Hi Alice,
I am researching a Cochrane family that came from Ireland to the U.S. and
then Quebec. It is possible, that there may be a connection. Information
posted here http://members.shaw.ca/mac.rusk/cochranetree.htm is outdated,
as since that was uploaded I learned that Henry Cochrane was the son of
Robert Cochrane, as in the church records for Henry's death in December 1878
it has a note "son of Cochrane, late Robert of North Carolina". Henry was
born in Ireland circa 1811 according to census records. Other family members
were born or died in New York.
Hopefully, there is a connection.
Michelle Rusk

Is anyone researching a Robert COCHRAN who was born in 1787, Ireland and
died March 12, 1847 in Manhattan, New York, NY?
I do not know yet if this Robert Cochran is my relative or not but the
date, name, and place coincide with details of my relative.
Thanks for your time.
