The "Cochran Book" is for sale. I am saying this now in case there is
any confusion for anyone who might get on the list and think it is a
free resource.
It is important to clarify this. I personally contacted the person who
wrote the book in an attempt to find out if my lines were in it and was
told by the owner that I had to buy the book.
As far as the repetition of names are concerned a simple description of
the areas of birth or death would give one at least a starting place.
After several hours of searching I did find a copy of Miles' book at the
library of Congress. Miles's book is one of many at the Library of
Congress CALL NUMBER:
CS71.C663 1976
There are many other books on the Cochrans, i.e. "The Fighting Cochrans"
etc. that you can get in the library of Congress as well as other
libraries.
Even more important for anyone who might be new on the list is first of
all to start with their own immediate family and work back. Too many
people think the work that others have done is accurate. The name
Cochran has been spelled a million different ways. No newby on the list
should trust a statement that we "all came" from any particular Cochran
line.
Some Cochrans are Cherokee.
Some folk who have the Cochran family name are not even Cochrans! Some
Cochran derivatives or name changes make it difficult for some to know
they are Cochrans, i.e. Cohorn.
We need to spend more time on this list contributing free Cochran
information from a variety of resources.
It would also be nice if one of you who have purchased the Cochran book
would reply to the lady who wants to know about the Carolina Cochrans
A really great web site for some Cochrans from Ohio is the Cochran and
Shroyer Families. There are beautiful pictures and great documented
information on Cochrans originating from Pennsylvania. The work was
done by Barbara Shroyer.
Also, there is the "Eller-Cochran" book compiled by Mary E.
Cochran-Eller who has excellent documentation.

narratives, in which members of this family have played a prominent part

Mile's book is also for sale at Ebay: $50.00. One reviewer at Ebay
said her Cochrans were not in there and it was primarily for those who
had Cochrans from Ireland.

Have you seen the book by William C. Stewart called "Gone To Georgia"? Also
this same author has a book called "1800 Census of Pendleton District South
Carolina" that has lots of good notes in it on so many families... They were
published by the National Genealogical Society.

My William was born around 1785 and died in 1845. His wife Nancy moved to
Ga and died in 1870. William is buried in the Arnold family cemetery in
Greenwood S.C. His will and the date on the tombstone all match up. tim

Im looking for information on William Cochran the son of Daniel and Phoebe
Cochran. Some people have him leaving the Abbeville area. There is a
William buried in the same cemetery as John Cochran the son of Daniel Cochran.
This William was married to Nancy Reynolds. Im trying to associate him with
either two families of Cochrans, either Andrew or Daniel. Any Suggestions?
Thanks Tim
