Jessica,
I have a note that a Daniel Cochran (along with James, Robert, Barnabas, Thomas, Hugh, Isaac, and Nancy) were possible siblings of my direct ancestor, Paul Cochran, Jr. Paul was born in 1854. Will E.Parham states that all these Cochrans lived in the Baker Creek area near Maryville, TN in Blount County in 1808 and they were all related (Will E. Parham Papers, Blount County Public Library). They could have been cousins. This clan of Cochrans came from Burke County, NC and before that were in Mecklinburg County, NC. I have no information or dates for any of them other than Paul.

Dale,
Does your history list a Daniel Cochran born about 1785? I've been told our Cochran's could have possibly migrated from NC. Daniel ended up in Hickman Co, TN in 1818 where he stayed until his death.
Thanks,
Jessica Cochran Hill

Betsy,
I'm two years late, but my ancestors were Cochrans of Blount County, TN. My great-grandfather, Cyrus, owned a farm near Binfield, about six miles south of Maryville. His father, as a child, had migrated with many of his family from Burke Co., NC to TN about 1800. The only Lowry I know much of was an Ann Lowry who married Robert Lusk Cochran in 1845. She was born in 1825 and died in 1907. One of their sons, John Eaton Cochran, wrote a short family history which I have. However, I can find no mention of a John Henry Lowry in this book. I have a lot more info about these families, if you are interested.

I posted this in the Butler message board but thought I would repost here in case COCHRAN researchers might be familiar with this line:
I am trying to find more information on the following ancestors:
Narcissus COCHRAN, b: abt 1830 TN, married William T. GARDNER, had the following children:
Christa Ann (Christina)b: 10 jul 1852, Butler Co. KY
George P. b: 30 aug 1853 Butler Co., KY
Rosaltha Jane b: 22 sep 1854 Butler Co., KY
1860 census Butler Co. KY
Wm Gardner 29 KY
Narcissus 30 TN
Christiana A 7 KY
George I (P) 6 KY
Rosealtha I (J) 5 KY
Mary GARDNER 30 KY [this is Wm's sister]
Next door:
Samuel Cochram 56 VA
Milly 57 NC
Thos J 32 TN
Matilda 18 TN
Andrew J 16 TN
James M 15 TN
I think Samuel and Milly are the parents of Narcissus.
1870 census: Brooklyn Post office, Precinct 5 Butler Co.
Thomas Cochran 44 TN
Milly 62 NC
James 24 TN
Christina GARDNER 18 KY
George GARDNER 16 KY
I haven't been able to find William and Narcissus or their daughter, Rosaltha on the 1870 census anywhere.
Christina GARDNER married William C COOK, son of James B COOK and Rosanna CHRISTMAS 19 aug 1871 in Butler Co., KY.
They had the following children: Virgil, Vechel, Chriss (female), Wade, Lut, Elmede, Monarch, Bevely (male), and Laura. They moved to Sherman, Grayson, TX with some of their children. I think Virgil stayed in KY. I can't find Vechel anywhere. Wade is my great grandfather.
I believe William GARDNER's mother might have been Delia (unknown maiden name) and a brother George W GARDNER, married to Mary Ann ROBINSON, with daughters, Delia Ann b: 18 jan 1857 and Sarah b: about 1858. They lived in the Welches Creek area of Butler Co.
Anybody connected to these people? Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking for ancestors of Nancy Agnes Cochran, b. 1750 in Dublin, Ireland, moved to America (details below), md David Hunter, widower, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
I am searching for information on the Cochrane/Cochran/Cochron name from (Scottish origin)Dublin, Ireland to England to America(English Colonies,USA)about 1690-1765.
My ancestor, Nancy Agnes Cochrane, was a daughter of the Earl of Dundonald who, at age 13, is said to have run away to America, taking her maid and her jewels, rather than marrying a cousin...see below for details. G. C. B. Cochran- i. e. Cochrane is one name mentioned by researchers. Some other comments I've read:
Father's Mother, M. T. Smoot..."Grandmother was a Cochran and a sister to the late Earl of Dundonald...The Cochran family have ever been fighters upon the seas and are related to the nobility of England." Daddy [W.C.A. Smoot, Jr.]-a letter written by W.C.A. Smoot, Jr. who was a descendant in 1909.
"After the death of his [David Hunter] first wife, by whom he had two children,he married Nancy Agnes COCHRON, who was grandmother of Margaret T. Smoot. She was a native of Ireland and was born in 1750. Her parents were wealthy,
owning a large landed estate and other property. When Nancy Agnes was only 13 years old, her parents wished her to marry a cousin of her mothers, whom she disliked and rather than marry him, she concluded to leave her
father's house, home and friends, which she did, taking her maid Uriral?. They disguised to avoid detection, they escaped through a crevice in the wall, taking her jewelry
with her with which to pay their passage to America, where they arrived,in about six months [about 1763], sick and destitute. She there married Mr. [David]Hunter and bore him ten children." original source--A. O. Smoot boxes at BYU [Provo, Utah, USA]. BYU Special Collections, Mss. 896, Box 2 folder 7.
There may have been an acquaintance of the Cochran/Cochrane-Hunter families prior to America as both are Scottish and came from the Dublin, Ireland area within a similar time period.
Would appreciate a lookup if anyone has access to ship's list arriving from London, England to New York or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania harbors, 1762-1764 era.
The book, THE FIGHTING COCHRANS, has recounts of military deeds of 6? generations of Cochran males. One was the Queen's head of the Royal Navy. See
http://www.clancochrane.org
Being a noble family, I know there are records out there with detailed genealogy; I just don't have access to them and would appreciate any information.
Thanks in advance, Lana, w4ctk(a)farmerstel.com

I am searching for more about Samuel Cochran's spouse. He was born abt 1772 in VA and died in Oglethorpe, GA. He married Rhoda Scoggins in 1797 in Oglethorpe County, GA. She was the daughter of Alexander Scoggins. Does anyone know if she was deceased previous to Samuel's death?
Samuel is not my line but I found this on Genforum: Cochran, Samuel from
Mary Gregg and here is a partial quote:
"He seems to have been married twice - to Rhoda Scoggins and to Sarah, who
survived him. But there is no marriage record for him and Sarah, and
marriage records in Oglethorpe are good.
I am so pleased to see another of Samuel and Marah's descendants! If you
think I have any information that would help you, please let me know. Mary
