Rebecca,
You can sign up with either the Cochran Surname Y-Chromosome DNA Project or
the Cockerham Surname Y-Chromosome DNA Project. I think you should try the
Cochran Project first. If you like, I'll send you instructions to sign up.
Either give me a phone call at home or send me your phone number and I will
call you.

My name is Rebecca Yue and I have only been able to trace back my Cochran roots to 1787. Therefore, I do not know if we belong to any of the lines mentioned below. My father is still alive so I am wondering, if he is willing to supply his DNA, how would we go about testing our Cochran line?
Your assistance is appreciated.

I hope I don't ruffle any one's feathers with this but I would like to see

Lorris,
I am not a direct Cochran descendant. However my maternal grandfather
was a Cochran, born in Carbon County, PA. I have been attempting to
trace his family, with little success. In the process, I have
discovered a family listed in the census as Cocherell, which matches
names on tombstones with the surname Cochran. I am curious to know if
there is any chance Cocherell might be a varient spelling of Cochran.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,

Hi June!
My info shows that Patrick Jack Cochran was born 01 April 1815 and died 6
Feb 1863. He was the son of David Bruton Cochran and Catharine Butler.
They had a son named Psalm Jackson "Sam" Cochran born 9 Mar. 1857 and died
29 Mar 1913.. David Bruton Cochran was the son of Abraham
Cockerham/Cochran. Abraham changed from Cockerham to Cochran about 1790. I
have copies of documents showing his signature both ways. So, too answer
your question, I guess, technically, both are correct. Both David's and
Abraham's gravestones read Cockran however.
Sorry that this clouds the issue even more I guess but that is what I have.

Grace didn't there used to be a Cochran News letter several years ago ?
I know some of my other
surnames there was but it seems like before the computer, we had one.
Just wondering..
Rosalie
I've been interested in the discuss about the book. I'd be happy to purchase it, if there was information about my Cochran ancestors in it. (After buying several others that "sounded" like they were about various ancestral lines, but were not, I'm hesitant to do that again!)
If the Miles Cochran book has an index, could someone please look to see if there mention of:
1. a Moses Cochran who was b. about 1787 (possibly in PA) and lived in Mercer Co. PA from at least 1823 to at least 1855. This is my Cochran brick wall. Moses m.1) Mary Small "of Pittsburgh" who died in 1823. I do not know if they had children. He m.2) Lucinda Cook in 1826. Moses & Lucinda had at least 8 children: Franklin J. (abt 1830), Annie (or Amie) (abt 1832), Lucretia (abt 1835), Thomas J. (abt 1839), Mary Salina (abt 1841), Nancy Jane (1843), John M. (abt 1846), and a son in about 1850...listed in the 1850 Mercer Co. PA census as "William", but in the 1860 Henry Co. MO census as "Robert." Moses & Lucinda Cochran lived in Iowa by 1870, and within a few years moved to Madison Co., NE, where they both died.
2. ANY Cochrans living in Mercer Co. PA listed in the book?
If so, I'd be happy to buy the book. If not, then at least I'll know.
Thank you.
