Cynthia, OK, now I am confused lol. Iva Dell Cochran's book "A Cochran
Clan"
stated that "our forefather, William Cochran(e) was born in Scotland in
1710.
His father was a large manufacturer and ship owner of great wealth and three
of
his brothers had ships of their own.
While William was growing up, he often spent several days at the castle of
one of his
uncles. This uncle entertained him with tales of the many battles he had
fought for their
King. He related how another William Cochrane, a Sir, had married Eupheme,
daughter of
Sir William Scott of Andress, Fifeshire and these two men had planned to
bring groups
of people to America. They had written to the Governors of different states
for permission
to send these people."
On arriving back home after the dining hour and having asked for his dinner,
he was served with
food that remained from the servants' table, which he declined. That night
his parents locked
him in his room. He slipped out of the castle, saddled his horse and waited
at the port where his
uncle's ship waited for passengers. He hid in the ship and wasn't
discovered until far out to sea.
On arriving in America, he joined the navy, and spent two years in it. Then
he visited relatives in
Londenderry, New Hampshire, where he helped build churches." (end of excert
from book)
There definitely are errors in Iva Dell's book, but I think she did a great
job considering this was
before computers.
I appreciate any enlightenment.

I think you are posting your question to a forum board and reply's come from
people who read the posting.
My Cochran's come from Abbeville, SC. From there to Fulton County, Georgia.
Do any of yours come from those places?

Anna,
Please send me your email again as my computer crashed and I lost my emails (but not my genealogy files!) and I'd like to send you the photographs. Thanks, Janet

What did Tammy say? I looked at her website and couldn't follow it back to
us, unless it is part of Swain's line. I don't think Wm and charity fit but
I've been wrong many times. Anyway her reply didn't come though...or was
that her reply..nothing?
Hi Tammy,
Rhis is Teresa Stuart de Rios. Did your father match
the William Cochran line of Buncombe CO NC and also
the Moses Cockerham line of Surry CO NC? If so we are
related.

Hi Tammy
My name is Jim Cochrane. I see you said you had done a DNA test. Who did
you do it with and is it very expensive. I was also wondering if you can use
the same DNA for other branches of the family or whether you have to pay for
a seperate DNA test for each branch. Do you know?
Thanks
Jim
I hope you don't mind my jumping in, but my ggg-grandfather was Hugh
Cochran, b 1786 in Ireland. He came to the USA in about 1839 and settled in
Westfield, NY. It is said he had an Uncle Andrew who went to NC in the 1700's, but
that is all I have on him. Do you Andrews's brothers and sisters or parents
and where they came from?
Thanks
Jim Cochrane

I am trying to get this message on the Cochran board, not sure what I am
doing wrong. Thanks
______________
My maiden name is Cochran but my father's 64 marker --perfect DNA match--
confirms it was Cockerham at one time.
Why aren't more Cochrans doing DNA testing? I see a lot of websites, where
people who come from William Cockerham who married Jemima Brame, say they
are from the Cochran's of Scotland. I would like to see what documentation
they have that can disprove my DNA results. Are they saying it was Cochran
before it turned Cockerham before it turned back to Cochran?
If you are a hard headed Cochran who refuses to believe you come from the
Cockerhams, you are a good candidate to be a Cockerham.
Please contact me if you suspect just a little that your Cochran name is
really Cockerham.
Thank you,
Tammy Cochran Collard

Hi Cochran list: I hope I am not confusing anyone by posting these emails
this way.
Just wanted to share some correspondence between two family lists.
Answer to Kitty. I had a 3xgreat Robert Cochran from Mecklenburg, NC; m.
Sarah Hemegen.
They moved to Marion Co., AL abt 1827. There were a lot of Roberts in that
family, so
there is a possibility they were related. Some of them went to TN.

I'm Looking for information on Christopher Columbus Cochran who married Susan London Jan. 24, 1866 in Marshall County, Tennessee. Don't know if these Cochrans were from Kentucky or from Tennessee. They later moved to Hunt County, Texas and later down to Tom Green County, Texas. Both of them are buried outside of San Angelo, Texas.
