I'm trying to locate proof linking Preston to his son, Clement Kendrick
Hickman Cochran for my grandmother's DAR application and have hit a dead
end. I'm hoping someone on the list might be able to help.
Preston died abt. 1843-45 in Barren Co., KY (I think). Clem was still a
child, a son by Preston's third wife Betsy Edwards.
I've checked for a will in Barren & Casey Counties for Preston, guardian
bonds in both counties, probate records for both counties and death records
for Jefferson County, KY where Clem is buried. I've even called Cave Hill
cemetery and searched the Louisville newspapers for an obit for Clem.
If anyone has any ideas, or has any information that would help, it would be
very much appreciated.
The vitals:
Edward Cockram, 1743-1816, Franklin Co., VA
Preston Kendrick Cockram, 1780, Franklin Co., VA, died before 1850, Barren
(?) Co., KY, married third wife Elizabeth 'Betsy' 'Callie' Edwards, Barren
Co., 1832
Clement Kendrick Hickman Cochran, 1837 in Casey or Barren Co., KY, died
1907, Casey or Jefferson Co., KY, buried Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville,
Jefferson Co., KY, married Mary Vanoy, 1861, Casey Co., KY.
Thank you,
Tamra

I'm trying to find any connection that John B Cochran of Hall County, GA might have with Abbeville or any other county in SC. This John was born about 1830 probably in Hall County, GA, died 1906 in Hall County, GA, married Martha L Whitmire Feb 1855 in Hall County, GA. I had seen the James Cochran connection between Abbeville County, SC and Hall County, GA and since the Whitmires also came from SC, it seems likely that this John may have come from there as well. Any help is appreciated.

Aged Woman Dead
WINTERS (Yolo Co.), April 6 - Mrs. Johanna COCHRAN died this morning at the home of her niece, Mrs. E.S. GRAF. Deceased was a native of County Limerick, Ireland, and was 88 years old. She arrived in New York in June, 1846; came to San Francisco via the Isthmus, and until her marriage made her home with the J.B. HAGIN family. She came with her husband to Yolo County in 1852, and died on the farm they homesteaded. Deceased was known to all early settlers, to many of whom she was a friend in need. She leaves no children, and she is almost the last of a once prominent Irish family. Her husband died in 1878.

Looking for parents, siblings, & children of Moses COCHRAN:
My gt-gt-gt grandparents, Moses COCHRAN (b. 1786) and Lucinda W. COOK (b. abt 1805 in PA) were m. in Mercer Co. PA in 1826. Moses was m. previously to Ruth SMALL of Pittsburgh, PA, who (according to his pension records for service during the War of 1812) died in 1823.
Moses & Lucinda’s children included according to census records for 1850 Cool Springs, Mercer Co. PA: Annie b. abt 1832; Lucretia b. abt 1832; Salina b. abt 1837; Thomas b. abt 1839; Nancy Jane b. 14 Sep 1843 in Mercer Co. PA; John b. abt 1846; “Wm” b. 1850 (3 mos.)
The 1860 Deep Water Twp., Henry Co., MO census lists the following: Moses, 75 b. in PA (as was the rest of the family); Lucinda, 55; Thomas, 20; Nancy J., 17; John M., 14; Robert F., 10. [No William listed in this one – maybe they decided to change the baby’s name after the 1850 census??] Next household appears to be daughter (Mary) Salina PALMER & husband Jacob Harlan Palmer. (Also found in 1870 Boone Co. IA, and 1880 Madison Co., NE censuses)
My gt-gt grandmother, Nancy Jane COCHRAN, was a school teacher in Farmington, Van Buren Co., IA, before marrying James R. MORELAND in 1867. Nancy Jane & James raised seven children in Farmington where they both died and were buried.
Moses & Lucinda COCHRAN (according to his pension records) also lived in Boone Co. IA (1871) and Adams Co. IA (1873). They were living in Madison Co. NE, by June 1876 where Moses died in 1877 (Battle Creek, Madison Co. NE.)
In the 1880 Madison Co, NE, census Lucinda Cook Cochran is listed in the household of her son Frank (b. abt 1831). [According to family lore, Frank had been m. to a “Beck” /Rebecca – but this is undocumented.] The 1880 census reads:
Frank Cochran, 50, b. PA, farmer, fa. b. PA, mo b. PA
Jennie - 27, b. IA, keeping house, fa b. IN, mo b. OH
Jennie - 4, Fe, b. NE, daughter, fa b. PA, mo b. IA
Franky - 1, Fe, b. NE, daughter, fa b. PA, mo b. IA
Lucinda - 75, b. PA, mother, fa b. NJ, mo b. NJ
[Note: daughter Franky – may have been a son instead??]
In the 1910 census for Kearney, Buffalo Co, NE, I’ve found what appear to be Frank and Jennie COCHRAN (with minor discrepancies not uncommon to census records):
Cochran, Frank, 84, b. in PA; Jennie, 57, b. in IA; Logan W., 23 b. in Kansas; Julia M., 18 b. in NE.
[Note: in the 1870 census for Osceola Twp., Clark Co, IA, I’ve found a Frank COCHRAN, 41, (b. PA) with wife, Rebecca, 40, (b. PA), and children: Norton, 19 (PA); Frank, 17 (PA); Sarah, 14 (PA); James, 12 (IA); Dora (sp?), 10 (KS), May, 4 (IA), and Wellington, 3 (IA). Don’t know if this is the same Frank – since in the 1880 census in which I know I have the right family – these younger children do not show up.]

Just ran across your old post. It's a long-shot, but is the Isaac Cochran you refer to the son of Nathan Cochran (Cockram) and Rachel Viers (Via) of Floyd County, VA?
Other children of Nathan and Rachel were Edward (Ned), Hetty Ann, Samuel, and William Jefferson Cochran (my grandfather). After Nathan died during the Civil War years, Rachel took the children and settled in Dickenson County, VA - which would correspond with your comment that Isaac and family once lived in Tivis, VA.
Please respond via my e-mail. Thanks.
