Hello listers,
I have just begun researching a new line and I am having a difficult time.
Looking for parents of Joseph COCHRAN/COCKRAN. He was born abt. 1912. He
married Evelyn ZIMMERMAN. Together they had 9 (spelled COCKRAN) children; some
born in Washington, D.C. and some in Maryland. Evelyn Zimmerman was born
about 1917 in PA., and died in the 1980's in MD. I was thinking about ordering
the social security apps but am not directly related....I'm not sure if this is
a possibility or not.
I was told that his middle names was Renolds (Reynolds?).
I have found several old news articles for COCHRANs in Washington, D.C. I
have even traced one particular Joseph that was living in D.C. with his parents
Stephen and Agnes COCHRAN. Stephen COCHRAN's father was Joseph COCHRAN, born
in MASS, married to Kate E. I have found NO ARTICLES that relate to Joseph,
born 1912. If needed I can list all of the children for the older Joseph and
his son Stephen.
Because Joseph and Evelyn married and had children after 1930 and the parents
of Joseph are unknown.....I can not make any connection between him and his
parents.
Is there anyone else searching the line in Washington, D.C. of Joseph, 1912 >
Stephen > Joseph, born in MASS. I have found no other Joseph COCHRAN/COCKRAN
near or in D.C. that fits this puzzle. The family has little to no
information on Joseph or his parents. The only other information given to me was that
their name could possibly have been CORKRAN. I could not find a Joseph
Corkran either.
Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated!

My Mother wes adopted in 1946, so i can relate. Her parents met in a cannery in california. the only record we have is from DSS that says her mother was born around 1921 in Oklahoma of indian and irish descent (tribe not stated). Her father was born in Alabama and was of irish and english descent. My Mom was adopted on the 13th of august 1946 in San Jose CA.
Her adoptive parents were John Marion Richard who was born in Roosevelt OK and Claire Catherine Johansen who was born in San Francisco. John was of Indian ancestry but we have no record of his descent either..
Any help on this would help and good luck to you other searchers.

I would appreciate any help, info and guidance on Harriet A. Cochran who is enumerated in 1870 and 1880 Murray County, Georgia Census' with her mother Nancy. In 1900 and 1910 Murray County, Georgia, Harriet is shown as Head of Household. Nancy was widowed in 1880, must have died prior
to 1900; I do not know her husband.
Harriet is shown as single but having 7 children and 7 alive in 1910. I have no idea who fathered Harriet's children. Family tradition says the youngest child Fanny was part Cherokee. Harriet's children (I believe) are:
Nancy Cochran b. ca 1872 (Married a Wilson)
Thomas Cochran b. July 1875 (living w/ Harriet at age 38)
Judge Mack Cochran b. Feb 1879 (Married Willie ??)
Alberta H.Cochran b. Feb. 1879
Sallie Cochran b. Feb 1880 (Married Richard H.Bramblett)
Clemmie Cochran b. Oct 1883 (Married Faby Durham)
Fannie Elizabeth Cochran b. Nov 1886 (Married James Harvey Roach)
Dates and ages on these Census' do not all add up, but they live consistently in the same place with same names. There is also a son James E. Cochran (age 1) living with Nancy and Harriet in 1870 that may be an eighth child that died in childhood. Death Certs for Sallie and Clemmie show Mother as Harriet, father unknown.
I would like to communicate with anyone who has any info or ideas, please email me directly or thru the list. I am at a total loss as where to go next on this research. Thanks,
Sarah

On page 24 of the book by Leonard Allison Morrison entitled THE HISTORY OF THE aLISON OR ALLISON FAMILY IN EUROPE AND AMERICA (published in 1893) there is reference to the marriage of an ALISON/ALLISON female who became the wife of Mungo Cochrane ca 1630. She had evidently inherited the Cairnduff estate or large farm (located in Lanarkshire, Avondale, Scotland) which had been in the Allison family for several generations. After her marriage, Cairnduff became Cochrane property. Was your Mungo Cochrane a descendant of the Mungo who married an ALISON and became the owner of Cairnduff?
Thanks.

I should say that fairly recently I discovered that this Michael Lowery Cochran and his wife Susan Estella Harkleroad moved from PA to Cadiz, Harrison, Ohio. I found an obit from my great-grandmother, Susan, which stated that she lived in Cadiz for 30 years before moving to Stark County, OH.

Yes, he was. I figured that middle name of Lowery must be someone's maiden name...I believe that his father's name was Mathew. Ring any bells, anyone? I have more information on my software but need to transfer it to my new computer.

Does anyone have any info on James Cochran (d. 1822) of Abbeville? Or on his family? I have a little but I would love to fill in some of the rather large blanks that I have.
>From what I can tell, James Cochran's first wife and mother of his children was Martha Weed (d/o Reuben Weed & Martha Messor). Their children, according to James’s will in 1822 and Martha Messor’s will in 1809, were James (Jr.?), John M., Reuben, Martha, Nancy & Sarah. I have several questions that I have been unable to find the answers to. I think I know what happened to John M. & Reuben but I’m not sure about the others. If anyone can help me answer these questions I would really appreciate it!
First, what are the children’s birthdates? Even approximate dates would help.
Second, was James Cochran’s wife the same Martha Weed that was married to Andrew Jones? If so, when did Andrew die? For that matter, when did Martha die? Did Martha and Andrew have any children?
Next, was the son James (Jr.?) the same James Cochran that died in Hall Co., Georgia in 1828? Did he ever marry?
And finally, who did the daughters, Martha, Nancy & Sarah marry?
Thanks in advance for any help! My email address is brentandlibby(a)centurytel.net.
