I am researching a obit found in the Salina News Microfilm for the year 1917. All it said was "A Full blood Cherokee woman named Black Bear was buried at Wickliffe #35 Tuesday." This appeared in the Nov. 9, 1917 (Friday) News ed.
I have found a Nancy Cochran who married Cannaheyadu BLACKBEAR Mar. 8, 1906 both of Spavinaw , I.T. which is now Mayes Co. Ok. Cannaheyadu has the same Cherokee card no.7918 as one Sallie BLACKBEAR of Saline Dist. I. T. who was 40 at the time of the Dawes roll . I am thinking she may be the woman in the obit, but need to find out if Nancy Cochran was related to the Cochran family that Cochran Prairie in the Spavinaw Hills area was named after. Working all surnames to find out more about this woman buried at the Wickliffe cemetery to update the records. So far all the burials there are of local families so trying to place this one to the Wickliffe cemetery area. Thank you.

per 1880 census Virginia Cochran was either divorced or widow of William Cochran . their children were Fanny, b 1865 and Jessie,male, b,1870. Jessie was my husbands grand-father. Occupation listed as bookkeeper. Either William or his father was named Mueller/Miller from Germany but started calling himself Cochran,reason unknown. Jessie, about 1900 took back the Miller name. Jessie was married to Clara Evers and they had 6 children: William H.b 1892; Florence,married Bryan; Lillian married Getz; Grace b,1903 in VA,married Mcintire; Jessie; and Walter 1st 3 children went by Cochran and last 3 went by Miller. Clara's father William was a brushmaker , per census. Researching for family tree, any info welcome Peg

This is the census data:
Jackson, Pickaway, OH George Cochran 000010000000010001 ...
So, in this household lived:
one male 20-30 years old (born 1800-1810);
one female under 5 years old (1825-1830);
one female 20-30 years old (1800-1810).
Could this be George Cochran, son of William Cochran, Sr. and Betsey Mannery? (He was born after 1795 in Ohio (Ross Co.?)
This is NOT he George W Cochran, son of James Cochran, Sr. as he was not born until abt 1843.
It shouldn't be "my" George Cochran as I think he was in Darbyville, Pickaway Co., Ohio with his father and sisters & mother/step-mother.
Any help identifying or eliminating this man would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terri Rene DaVar-Howard

Not sure if this is a help, but I may have a connection to your COCHRAN line:
I have Marion COCHRANE, born 1829 in Abbey (Paisley) in Renfrewshire, to James COCHRANE and Isobel CHAPMAN. James would have been born in the late 1700's, I don't know how many COCHRANES were in Abbey, but maybe your John and my James were brothers?
James married Isobel in Abbey in 1825, and I only know of the daughter Marion...
Unfortunately that's the only info I have on his side, let me know if you can verify a connection or if there were thousands of COCHRANEs in Abbey!
Thanks

I'm Kenny Cochran's son and I've been doing some research on this and I've gotten a little further, but not much. The Obediah your talking about is the same one I have. James Cochran and Nancy. Children were William, Obediah, Jane, Andrew, Nancy, Edmond B., James F., and Robert H. I have Obediah's wife listed as Charlotte (or Charlette) Ford born around 1821. They married Feb. 10, 1836. I also have a (2) - ? next to this wife meaning that Obediah could have been married twice, but I'm not sure. If you have Nancy's last name - that would really help me out. I have it as Henderson or Stearns. Also, I don't know exactly when she was born. I have around 1775. Also, if anyone knows if Thomas Cochran b. 1744 had any other children besides James Cochran b. 1773, please let me know. Thomas's father was William Cochran b. 1710 in Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, Scotland. If anyone has any more info about this William or any further back, please let me know. All I know is that h!
is wife was Helen born around 1714 in the same place. Any info on her, their children, or parents would be helpful.
Thanks!

What I am trying to find is the wife of Obediah.I have an Obediah married to Nancy Hancock in Habersham,Co.Ga. in 1830.If he answered I can't find any paper work.There is an Obediah or Obadiah Cochran married to 3 different women and not any died.So there must be more than 1 Obediah
