Hi Everyone:
The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com
Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line.
There is no content of their own.
In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card
or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged.
Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you?
One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not
once, but twice.
It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about
these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned
this.
Permission is granted to pass this on.
I have noticed that several folks list their Cochran having come from
Ireland.
My Thomas Cochran arrived in this country at Philadelphia, PA on the Ship
Polly out of Waterford, Ireland on 16 Nov 1805. There was also a William
Cochran on board. Could they have been brothers?
Anyone out there have any information that might connect to these two
Cochran's????

I am interested if anyone has any information concerning a Sarah Cockran born about 1830 in GA. to a French father with the last name of Cockran and an Indian mother. They were attacked by Indians and murdered along with an infant still in her mother's arms. An older child, a girl escaped and was never heard of again. Sarah about two years old at the time, was captured and spent several years with the Indians. She was later recaptured by some neighbors by the name of Stout who adopted and raised her. They later moved to Tennessee. Sarah married a John Palmer and had seven children. Sarah is my husband's great great grandmother. We would like to find out anything we could about her parent's ancestry. If you have info that could fill in the gaps we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Please let me know if your Andrew Jackson Cothran has a date of birth?
When was his sons' born?
Did he have any uncles, or perhaps others that you know of?
Have you got him living at home listed on a US census?
What County was this in when they were living there?
I may be able to locate some more on them.

Sometimes it was not the relatives doing the changing but the person doing the writing who did the changing, as they were poorly educated back then and so relied on what they heard to spell names. Some of the relatives could not read or write but only sign an X or some other mark.
A note on this line that you may or may not find in your lines.
Mine used different marks other than the X.
One used H in block form his name was Hezikiah.
Another one used D his name was Daniel and he was my Hezikiah's Father.
My line dates back to so far 1722 and to Caroline Co. VA and to before it even formed into Caroline Co.
Further it is very suggestive that they may be the people by this name who came from King William prior to Caroline Co. VA but this is not fact as yet.
There are some 35 + spellings for this name accepted by the North American Clan of Cochrane.

I am researching for a Zebiah/Zilliah/Phoebe Cochran who married William John Van Matre of Mason County, WV. From census records it is clear that Zebiah was born in Ohio. They would have married before 1858 when their first child was born. William John is the son of Rezin and Catherine Oliver Van Matre. Zebiah and William had many children, one of whom is Annie Laura my 3g-grandfather. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Samuel and Jonathan Cochran are either brothers or first cousins. They were born in Indiana about 1820. Samuel is the father of Joseph and Samuel Cochran b. 1840's in Iowa. Jonathan Cochran raised the two boys after the death of their mother (believed to be Anne). I have much information and would love to share if we can connect.
