Hi Tom , was your Robert Baines Moore a general by chance? If so let me know, have a connection if he was. Patti
In the 1850 Census of Nicholas Co.VA by Bobbitt Page 41 Family 377 there
is listed the following:
William Cockran 26 1824 VA
Isabella Cockran 26 1824 VA
Preston Cockran 3 1847 VA
Isabelle Cockran 1 1849 VA
I think this is William Corby Cochran who married Sarah Isabelle Lynch.
The son is shown as Preston b. 1847. In the 1880 Census of Holly,
Webster, WV he is shown as Presley Cockran. Does anyone
know which is correct? Preston Brown Cochran or Presley Brown Cochran. He
married Sarah Jane
Cogar. I have several other Preston Brown Cochrans in my files.
Appreciate any help.

Hi Tom , here is what I have on my Moore/ Cochran line.
Alexander W Cochran B 1846 D 1922 married Josephine Marlow B 1850 D 1937 on 5 Feb 1871 in Scotch Ridge Belmont county Ohio'
They had the follwing children;
John H Cochran B 1885 D 1927
Sadie Lizzie Cochran B 1877 D 27 April 1878 age 1
Minnie Cochran B 1883 D 1953.
In my cemetery records I also show
Cochran E.T. 1875 - 1948
Cochran Sarah J 1850 - 1937
The E. T, may be another child but at this time I don't know. The Sarah J is Sarah , my line from the Moore / Marlow marriage. Her full name was Sarah Josephine Marlow Cochran. I also have a Laura Cochran B abt 1876 but I don't know about her yet either, Have a Juno B abt 1872 but think this is a mix up in dates and is really John H Cochran. I don't know about the Robert Baines Moore , so far I've not run across that name, 3 known Moore famlies in Belmont county in this time period , not proven to be related . If you have these names in your records please let me know. Patti

Hi Patti
I don't have my Cochran files available at this time but will try and search what I have soon. I do know my ancestor William Cochran, b. 1793, had a brother Alexander who helped build Quaker City in Belmont County. I know he had a son but not sure if he was an Alexander. The family had a large lumber company in town. Wm. and Alex. father was named Alexander b.1765 near Fort Pitt, PA and d.1851 in Guernsey County, OH. Sorry I can't recall more but will be in touch. One of Wm. and Alex's sisters married into the Morrow family, and when her husband died, Jane Cochran Morrow married Robert Baines Moore and moved to CA during the Gold Rush of 1849. My grt2grfather, John Henderson Cochran later followed his aunt with family in 1857. Hope to get back to you soon. Let me know if you have anything on my ancestors.
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tammy,
I have forwarded the info to another researcher. You don't mention which 1870 census? My gson Levi hedrick is listed as age 1 in the 1880 Murray Ga census with my Chambers family. So most likely, he was born between 1878-1879 and then something happened, that caused him to be living with gparents, John C and Malicey(millissie) Dial Chambers who had a son Cass of the same age.
Also, on the 1880 Murray mortality sched, there is this:
Murray 276 COCHRAN, Calaway C. 4m M S GA
JAN Scrofula 4m
There are also Cochron/Cockron and Hedricks in the 1850 Murray index.
Thanks,
Shari

Does anyone know why the change in name from McEachran to Cochran and Cochrane? I have John McEachran born in Scotland married Elizabeth Littleson. She emigrated in 1852 and lived in Aldborough Township, Ontario with her son Neil and his wife.until her death, circa 1871 at the age of 97.Archibald and Donald took the Cochran name for some reason. The other children kept the McEachran name.
