Yes, it seems our families are not related.
It was a possibility, and I have hit many without result.
Sorry to hear of your aunt's eyes. Mine are going too.
My sis-ini-law left comcast.net because of problems.
I wish you well in the neverending struggle of genealogy.
The Lord bless you.

Message Board Post:
Unfortunately, my John Walter COCHRAN was probably born by 1845 at the latest, as the first of his three children was born 6/22/1861.
However, the legend is that John Walter Cochran was one of 12 children, "the result of two marriages", so perhaps he could be a sibling to your Richard A. Cochran. John Walter Cochran named his three children Hiram Walter, Albert, and Sarah Eldora. Perhaps the A in your Richard's middle name is for Albert? The next generation (Hiram Walter's progeny) included a Clarence Charles Cochran and a Myrtle Cochran (noticing Lilian's middle initial M.)
The only sibling name handed down is Wendell Cochran (no further information available on him, either.)
I, too, am hopeful of finding someone who can link in my John Walter in some way, for it seems without someone else I am stuck... unable to locate his death record from 1874, a grave, his original birth record from Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, or any surviving family history with more information. We are only this far due to the incredible memory of a blind aunt, who dictated everything she knew in 1969.
Good luck, and thank you!!

Hi Richard,
Would you please check your COCHRAN line for these brothers; Joseph b. 12May1844 and Samuel B. b.1848, both born in Iowa.
Their parents were born in Indiana. I have found nothing on the family in Iowa, Joseph joined the Union Army at Mt Sterling, IL in 1861. Found Joseph and Samuel in central Missouri in 1870. Illinois in 1880 and back to Missouri in 1890. Any information would be much appreciated. I have much I would love to share.

Joe.
Look at my message posted same day as yours.
There is a family possiblity worth mentioning here.
I have a James. Families were good at naming their children after brothers/sisters, close relatives. Dates align in Ohio for one of John and Martha Cochran's children to have a child James Cochran born as you listed. They were in Warren Co, Ohio. But as you know the children drift, marry and move again, so I don't hammer down Warren County as only country of my Cochrans. My line went to Indiana, then Ilinois and returned Indiana. But another went to Kansas and stayed, another to Truro, Iowa but returned to Indiana. Iowa seemed a magnet for my distant families, but I have not traced their route or know their children. I believe there is a liklihood of a connection here. After the Civil War, there was a drift of veterans westward to homestead.

This may not be your family line.
I have a John W. Cochran and look at him as John Walter.
RICHARD A. and CYNTHIA LINDSEY COCHRAN
m. 26 Nov 1854.
Six children:
Celia b. 1857
Walter b. 1858
Charles b. 1861
Lilian M. b. 1865, d. 1921
John W. b. 22 Jan 1868, d. 18 Sept 1883
Ida May b. 1871, m. _ Adams
A brother is Walter, hence possibly John's middle name. I cannot place where this line of my family lived. Richard's grandparents lived PA and OH. There was a moved west by later familes but I cannot place Richard's. Richard's uncle (my line) moved to Indiana. Others moved to Illinois and Kansas. The families fan out in so many directions from both Ohio and Indiana. My grandfather was born Illinois but his parents moved back to Indiana in 1872.
If you can connect, please contact me.
Hopefully,
Richard

Looking for the ancestors of James W Cochran born in Ohio in 1829. Moved to Clarke County, Iowa (probably in 1850's) and married Eleanor J Abrams, also from Ohio (b: 1829). They had 9 children all in Woodburn, Iowa: Iona (1855), William (1857), John Henry (1858), George (1860), James Oliver (1861), Charlie (1864), Allie (1871) and Fred (1874). Dear All:
There is a new extension of the message boards and mailing
list that has been created.
These Scottish Clans message boards and mailing lists have
been established to cover those subjects that are sometimes
off topic in these boards and lists. These boards and lists
also are intended to provide a specific Clan focus that
allows the various septs to particapate and the Clan society
to post their news and events.
You can subscribe to the Clan mailing lists by either
A: email to the Clan-COCHRANE-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
and put subscribe in the body of the message
or
B: go to
www.rootsweb.com
> Lists
> International
> Scotland
> Clan
and activate the email request
C: For the Clan message boards
www.rootsweb.com
>message boards
>topics
>ethnic/race
>Celtic
>Scottish Clans
Some of the current posted threads and topics are:
A: Ancestors
B: Events and Reunions
C: URL's and Web Sites
D: Castles
I will be adding more threads/topics over the next weeks
as time and suggestions occur. I plan to add threads on
Tartans, Heraldry, Customs ( Hogmanay) and
Culture ( Food, Songs, Dance etc)
If there is other subject matter that you think needs a thread
please let me know or add it to the threads and topics on
the message board
The posting process is a little different than normal so
please read the posting guidelines. Basically, you would reply to the
thread/topic where you want your own post/thread followed.
This then gives you a URL that you can send by email or
post to other web sites. Then related parties, and interest
groups can have their own unique thread to follow.
I've tried to organize the posts so we get the natural
filing structure that this technique gives us. This way
we won't have to search through a series of unrelated
posts for pages and pages to track and find a
particular subject matter or post.
There are a couple of other major advantages to posting
to the Clan message boards
A: There is no virus threat. So you can post there
with no possibility of getting an infected message back.
All replies to the mailing list go back to the rootsweb servers
by default and the virus are thence removed.
B: The messages are gatewayed over to each Clan mailing list so
you do get the wide distribution of the mailing list.
So you can post there on the message board and still get the
wider distribution and archiving of the Clan mailing list.
C: Your post is visible for an extended period of time.
D: If you activate the "board notification" then you will receive
one email notice whenever there is a post to any and all
boards you are tracking. So it's the equivalent of one
"super digest" . Nice invention by some creative person
here at Rootsweb. No other web site offers this that I know
of !
So please do me a favor and post this notice to other mailing
lists and surname and topics message boards that you think might
be interested in their Scottish Clan and Related Family /Sept heritage .
Best Regards
John A Hansen
Clan Board Admin
BTW: Septs is normally used more by the Irish Clans but in actual
practice, I see a lot of people still using this term as a definition for
the related family to the main Clan. There are a number of
septs defined at a good web site at www.electricscotland.com
It cross references both ways. Septs of the Clan and then
the cross reference of the Septs that normally are accepted
as belonging to a certain Clan. There are also several good
books on the subject as well. Usually a study of Scottish
History will tell you the related parties and families in a certain
Clan. I don't know of another ethnic group that has been so
careful for hundreds of years to define their ethnic heritage and
related families as well as the Scottish. They even went to the point
of creating a court under the jurisdiction of the Lord Lyon to sort
out the arguments and disputes that arise from time to time. Scots are
proud of their heritage and their ancestry. The love of the
people for their own glens and bens is strong and deep.
