COCHRAN, ROBERT E. (1810-1836). Robert E. Cochran, Alamo defender, was
born in New Jersey in 1810. He probably lived in Boston and then in New
Orleans before immigrating to Texas in 1835. For a time he conducted
business with Ammon Underwood. Cochran took part in the siege of Bexar
and later served in the Alamo garrison as a member of Capt. William R.
Carey's artillery company. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6,
1836. Cochran County is named in his honor.

The test for Heritage Quest was for libraries and citizens of West
Virginia. We are considering offering this database as a service to all
West
Virginia citizens through their libraries.
Although the test was intended for West Virginians, the URL and
passwords were posted nationwide. Our hits went from a few dozen a day to
7,500 a
day. Not what we intended.
If we do re-institute the test of this wonderful database it will most
likely be through IP recognition at the state's 176 public libraries. If
we do decide to offer the database as a service to the state's libraries,
IP recognition will be part of the signon.

My Grandpa Cochran died, I think in 1945. My aunt, his youngest daughter is 90 now, I believe. He lived in Douglass, KS. I don't think this is the same G.W., because my grandpa died when he was about 55 years old. I never knew him, but my Grandma continued to live in the house in Douglass until her death in 1965 or 66. Her name was Alice Mae Stolebarger.

I am checking to make sure that I am aware of all descedants from William Levi Cochran. With Jennie Baines, their children were John Coleman, Ellis William, Arthur, and Frank Thomas. With Lizzie Sutton: Jess Willard and Grace. Any others out there?

See "Chonicles of the Cochrans" by Ida Cochran Haughton. I purchased my copy from Barnes and Noble online. It is actually the first edition published in 1915 and the second published in 1925 in the same volume. It was a GREAT read. The information on Cochranville Pa is very complete.

I have two GREEN links. My late husband's parents were Eddie James GREEN, Sr and Pauline DYKES of Troup and Wilcox counties in Georgia. They lived in Crisp county Georgia. I don't think there is a link here. Secondly, my parternal grandparents were Henry LOONEY and Lottie GREEN in St. Clair county Alabama. I have a little info on her, however, if you wish I will share what I do have.

The GREEN family I'm researching is my late husband's family and they lived in the Crisp and Troup counties of Georgia. His father was Eddie James GREEN, Sr. and his mother was Pauline DYKES. I don't think this line is the line yu are looking for. Also, I have a grandmother named Lottie GREEN who married my paternal grandfather, Henry LOONEY on November 26, 1885 in Ashville in St. Clair County. Just obtained infor on her. They were married at the residence of Jack Green. This info being recent, I don't know how Jack fit in the puzzle. If any thing sound familiar, let me know. Alma

Hi Jan, From Gaelic Mc equates to 'son of'. There are many variations of the name Eachran. Typically Cockerham or Cochran. See the book "Chronicles of the Cochrans' by Ida Cochran Haughton available from Barnes and Nobles online site.

Would you like fries with that too?? You see, it don’t work that way. The purpose of this board is to share information and make information available to the masses. By posting information in this open forum everyone can take a look and see if they have a connection to another’s line. Using it as a private message board does a disservice to all.

I too am searching for African-American Cochran Family members from Alabama:
I am searching on behalf of Malicia Cochran B 1/12/1960 to James Comer Cochran B July 15, 1919.
James is the son of Oliver Cochran and Fannie J(?) Green of Birmingham.
James married Marrie Smith-possibly in Fairfield.
I noticed you have a GREEN surname connection, could there be a link.
