Message Board Post:
Hi-- my family of "COCHRANE/COCKRAN/COCHRAN,etc.)
showed up in Calvert Co MD in 1850. From the Maryland
State Archives I have found 2 burials at 2 different
CHRIST CHURCHES for ETHEL ELIZABETH COCHRAN
/ETHEL ELIZABETH COCHRANE. Then my great grandmother's brother "I think" also named his daughter
ETHEL. I am not sure where my Cochrane's came from.
On my great grandpa's burial info, his wife was listed
as ELIZA JANE COCKRAN with that spelling. Also, this
Eliza Jane lived from approx 1861 to 1931? and is buried
in Calvert Co MD.at Christ Church. My great grandfather
that Eliza married was surnamed MCVOY but in the
WAR OF 1812 records was as MCBOY'S MS MILITIA.
And in Some Spanish records MCVOY is spelled as
MACABOIS which is similar. No clue if there would be
any connection as I am still to figure out where my Eliza's
father, WILLIAM HENRY COCHRAN(E) and his brother,
JAMES SOMERSETTE COCHRAN(E) hailed from originally.
They first appeared in the 1850 Calvert Co MD census.
Both were born circa 1820's and WILLIAM HENRY COCHRANE'S wife was said to be ELIZA JANE FOWLER
and WILLIAM HENRY COCHRANE'S brother apparently
was at that time married to a SOPHIA FOWLER who was
said to be ELIZA JANE FOWLER's cousin. Now there are
quite a few NY FOWLER'S and another researcher has said
they were apparently QUAKERS early on. I don't know if this
helps or not, but the name ETHEL is what opened my eyes.
Still don't know WHO the ETHEL'S were that are buried
at the Christ Churches. I think one was at GREAT CHOPTANK and the other was at the one in Calvert Co MD.
Please check the MD archives. Good luck. Bonnie Treon

was born in July 1793. Their parents were Alexander and Hannah Adams married
in 1787 by Rev. McMillan near Pittsburg, PA. Hannah's father was Jacob
Adams, mother unknown. No further data on them. Alexander b. 1765 near Ft.
Pitt was son to William who is believed to have been born around 1740. His
father was rumored to be Hugh. That's about all I have on this linage. Many
researchers have spent countless hours attempting to locate more on the
early Cochran's from Hickory, Washington Co., PA but have been unsuccessful.
This family moved to what became Guernsey Co., OH about 1800/01. Do you have
any additional data that can be added to this family in the PA area? Let me
know where you stand in your research and if I can help.

I am very interested in your William A. Cochran, b. April 1842 in Iowa. I have a Joseph b. 12May1844 and Samuel Cochran b. 1848, both born in Iowa. and both ended up in Benton county and pettis county Missouri. Both named a son William. Is it possible your william is a junior? Do you know what part of Iowa your william is from? Do you know of any brothers and sisters your william had. Kinda strange that two totally different Cochran families had children in iowa and they all ended up in Missouri. Please contact me directly. Chuckglndaz(a)qwest.net
