I am searching for someone with the information on the sons of Garnett H.
Cochran They would be:
Ellis Cochran/b After 1905
William Cochran/b After 1905
Oliver Cochran/b After 1905
I believe their mother to be "Minnie Mae (Cochran)" She and Garnett would
have married after his divorce from Lillie Mae Armstrong, which was in
1904/05 after the death of their last child Alice Cochran.
Garnett H. Cochran, and Lillie Mae Armstrong were my G-Grandparents. My
grandmother was Pearl Helen Cochran/b 1901 in Zillah, Yakima, WA. I would
believe Ellis, WIlliam, and Oliver were born in Yakima Co., WA as Garnett is
buried there.

new to list: does anyone know the origins of the name. I have been given two
theories. One: english origins and Two: French origins from the name
Corquerille. This last theory has it as the name of a military family of
Normandy who fought with Wm the conqueror. Later the same line went to
England to fight in the War of the Roses (or I guess they could have stayed
after the Battle of Hastings) which would explain how they got to England.
Another story of the family is that all descendants are from one of four
brothers; hence the coat of arms quartered with a cockerel in each of the
four quarters. Any thoughts, comments, naysayers?

I am searching for the family of Eliza Cochran (maiden name is Cochran).
She was either from Westfield, NY or somewhere in PA, maybe the Pittsburgh
area. She had four brothers, or so her obituary says.
Eliza was born in 1821 and her obituary says she was from Westfield, NY.
She married Robert Cochran and they had three children, Elizabeth, Emmett
and Byron. in 1849 they headed west. I believe they took boat via the Great
Lakes and stopped first in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Apparently, they lived
in Trenton Township, Dodge Co. Robert and son Emmet, both died in the ealy
1850's in WI.
About 1865 they moved to Racine, Mower Co., Minnesota and were there about
seven years. in 1872 they settled at Gary, Deuel Co., South Dakota on the
shores of what became Lake Cochrane.
There were other Cochrane's who went west with the family, cut I can't
determine the relationship. Some settled in Clark, South Dakota. A brother
of Eliza went on to Washington State.
Any help appreciated.

Hi All!
I am posting this same message to the Cochran and Cochrane lists; sorry if
you get duplicates!
I am new to both lists and I am searching for my Cochran families.
In 1836, William Hunter and Margaret Cochrane had a son, Robert, out of
wedlock. They wed shortly after his birth. When they married, they took the
surname Cochran, dropping the "e". They were all born in Renfrewshire,
Scotland; probably Houston.
In 1857, Robert married Annie Kilgour. They had the following children:
Robert b. 1857 (m. Annie Martin), Samuel b. 1874 (m. Alice Hall), Agnes (m.
Currie), John (m. Isobel), Martha (m. William Brown).
The family immigrated to the US in 1876 and 1879 through Ellis Island. The
settled in and around Newark and Patterson NJ.
I am currently looking for their children, et al, as well as the parents of
William Hunter and Margaret Cochrane.
If anyone can help, please let me know! Thanks all!
Alex
