I am researching the descendants of Elijah and Jemima (GREGG) COCHRAN who married 24 June 1779 in New Boston, Hillsboro, NH. Their issue: Nathaniel, Mary Martin, James, Samuel, Isaac, Hetty, Elijah.
Thank you for your help.
Do you have any material on James Cochran who married 1783 Mildred Paschal,
sister John Paschal who married Frances Cockran of Abbeville Distr SC,
daughter of Benjamin Cockerham/Cockran of VA/GA d. Jan 1816 Morgan Co., GA,
son of John Cockerham of Lunenburg, VA?
Or Lt. James Cochran of GA served Rev War? Is he the same as James Cochran
b.VA m. to Nancy in Tallapoosa Co., AL, age 77 in 1850, her age 75, child
Munroe age 11.
My James Cockran/Cochran b. GA, d. prior 1858 MS, m. 1816 Anna Campbell in
Morgan Co., GA, first child b. GA 1826 Martha Ann Cochran m. 1858 LA to
Hugh Blair McMahen/McMahan. Trying to prove his father, Benjamin
Cockran/Cockerham d. Jan 1816 Morgan Co., GA, from VA. My James lost his
inheritance in Morgan Co., GA just prior to 1816 marriage. His son, James
T. named eldest son, James Benjamin Cochran, whose Mother was Martha
Elizabeth Bingham.

Looking for proof of parents of James Cockran/Cochran of Morgan Co., AL b.
ca1793; his wife was Anna Campbell, daughter of Charles Campbell of Morgan
Co., GA. Their children were Martha Ann Cochran b. 1826 GA, m. Rev Hugh
Blair McMahan, Claiborne Parish, LA 1858; James T. Cockran b.Morgan Co.,
GA, m. Martha Elizabeth Bingham, Tallapoosa Co., AL 1851, he d. LA, her AR;
John W. Cockran b. GA d. AR never married; and Mary M. Cockran m. Elijah
Bingham 1851 Tallapoosa Co., AL and maybe others.
It is thought that James Cockran was the son of Benjamin Cockran/Cockerham
of VA, but need proof. Thanks for any help. Barbara

James T. Cockran (Patt Watts line) (brother to my Martha Ann
Cockran/Cochran b. 1826GA) m. Martha E. Bingham 6 Jul 1851 Tallapoosa Co.,
AL; and and her brother, Elias Bingham m. Mary M. Cochran 23 Jan 1851 in
Early AL Marriage book p. 214. Mary M. Cochran was a sister to Martha Ann,
James T. and John J. Now our James and Ann Campbell Cockran/Cochran were
in Morgan Co, AL in 1850 census, listed Martha Ann as age 23.
So, we have John J. still out. Martha Ann came to MS with her parents and
these other two married in Tallapoosa in 1851. Wonder why they were in
Tallapoosa Co in 1851?
Who were the parents of Elias and Martha Elizabeth Bingham who m. in
Tallapoosa Co., AL in 1851?
I found in Tallapoosa a James Cockran age 77 b. VA, (b.1773 or so) wife
Nancy ? age 75 b. VA with Munroe age 11 m. b. AL in Talladega District,
#1736-1782 Page 477 on Census for 1850 AL. Wonder how this VA person is
related to Benjamin Cockerham of VA? What is the maiden name for Nancy?
There is an A. Bingham and a William Cockran in Mobile Co, AL 1850
Andrew Cockran m. Jane Boggs 5 June 1828 in Madison Co., AL. There is an
Andrew Cochran in Tall. Co, AL in 1840 census P. 261 No Twp L. (This can
be Tallapoosa or Talladega)
Arthur Bingham with wife, Jane, both b. NY., ages 30 are there #563-576
Page 389 with children Mary J. 8, Nancy C. age 5, and Samuel age 2/12.
Mary J. is b. PA, last two AL. Who were his parents? There is an A Bingham
in Mobile Co., AL 1850
Found in St. Clair Co, AL Page 163 #337-357 John Cockran SR. age 76 b. SC
with wife, Sarah age 61, b. SC, children ELIAS Cockran age 20 b. GA, Mary
18 and Elizabeth 16 both b. GA. Next door was John Cockran JR age 25 SC,
wife Caroline age 21 b. AL, children Tobis age 3 m, AL, Mary 1 f b. AL.;
then next door was James Cockran age 30 b. SC and wife Emily age 25 b. GA
and children Lucina 9 f b. GA, John 5 m b. GA, and William age 2 m, b. GA.
They probably all go together.
So that is an older one from SC b. 1774ca and the above one b. ca 1773
from VA!!!!!
There was Obadian Cochran age 45 b. SC with wife, Charlotte, age 29 SC,
children: William 12, b. AL, John 10 b. AL, Rebecca 7, James 5 m, Jane 5,
Nancy 3, and Elizabeth 11/12 all b. AL. in Tall Distr and Talladega Co and
P 480 Robert Cochran age 30 b. TN, wife Harriet age 40 b. NC, children Jane
12 b. AL, Nancy 10, James 7, Ann 3, Evaline 2, and Young 9/12 all b. AL.
Early AL marriages show Obediah Cochren m. Charlotte Ford 8 Feb 1836
Talladega Co., AL. Note Cochran and Cochren used.
St. Clair Co, AL 1850 Page 167 was Elijah Cockran age 54 b. IRELAND, wife
Mary age 54 b. Ireland with Rufus age 26 b. Ireland. Next door was Martin
Cockran age 29 b. Ireland, wife Sarah, Eli age 10, Nancy 8, Dorcas 4 f all
b. Ireland, then Rufus 4/12 m. b. AL. So it seem they had just come to AL.
He'd be b. ca 1796.
AL Records Vol 212 P. 19 Tallap Marriages 1835-1845
In marriages Elijah Bingham m. Mary Ray 2 Aug 1839, done on Sept 3; Green
S. Bingham, J. P. was bondsman.
then, Green S. Bingham m. to Sarah E. Breedlove 27 Dec 1844 on 29th; 1850
census has Green Bingham age 43 b. NC.
1850 Choctaw Co., AL #238 P 165 was L. Cockran age 45 f b. SC, with Mary 16
AL, and Margaret 9 AL. #269 p. 167 was James Cockran age 20 AL with wife
Salleta age 21 and Martha age 1 b. AL.
Most interesting thing is that Martha Ann Cochran b. 1826 GA who m. Hugh
Blair McMahan in 1858, b. 1804 SC Abbeville Distr; he had lived in
Lauderdale Co. AL where Ambrose Driskill Church was earlier the Bluewater
Church, Lauderdale Co., AL; well, Ambrose Driskill, M.G. in 1829 was m. a
couple Troup and Thompson in Morgan Co., AL where our Cochran's were.
Then, Hugh had a brother John C. who was elder at that church early 1800s
AL. Vol 32 of AL Records has a John McMahen, J. P. performing marriages
Morgan Co, GA for Paschal Crunk and Nancy Moore in 1831 and a William
McMahan and Martha Canterberry m. Nov 1, 1832 on 10th by T. W. McCarty, J.
P. in Morgan Co., GA. William E. is mentioned but I couldn't find that.
James Cochran's sister, Frances m. a Paschal in SC>GA. David and Sarah
McMahen of Abbeville Distr SC were the parents of Hugh Blair and John C as
well as James Allen and Richard. Where were they born? Who were Martha
Ann Cochran McMahen's b. 1826 GA grandparents besides Charles Campbell d.
Morgan Co., GA.?
Need to see Mobile Co, AL 1850 Page 409 and 280 for A. Bingham and James
Cockran. Are they related to Martha Elizabeth Bingham who m. James T.
Cochran 1851 Tallapoosa Co., AL?
Our James Cockran/Cochran b. 1793ca GA wife Anna Campbell b. NC Is there
a connection between James Cockran b. Va about 1773 is in relation to
Benjamin Cockerham? Can you throw any light on this?

Hi and thanks for the reply. I figured it was worth a shot for the both
of us. I guess I was wrong and yours does not in any way connect to mine.
This is too bad as I can go way back on my line into 1762 and have a bible
record one day to share with other family members. My Andrew Jackson is
named in this record. I have joined the UDC under him in fact.
I will just keep looking somewhere out there is more family members today.
I just have to find them.

Hello:
Is it at all possible that your Andrew Jackson Cochran could have been
born after 1851? Is it at all possible that his parents could have been
Edward A. Cockrum and Miss Mary Ann White who had married in Calhoune County,
AL in 1851 and then just vanish from site!!
Could this man have been named for Edward's Brother also named Andrew Jackson
Cochran who enlisted with the 19th AL. Inf. out of Centre, AL Co. H. who
enlisted as a single man and died during the war still single at that time.
Could it be that due to love and affection that his missing brother and
his sister in law ended up naming a child in his honor?
In Galloway Co. KY were there others by this surname about this same time?
Was there listed in Galloway Ky a man named Edward A. Cochran?
Thanks,
Gail
Dear List,
Patti and I have made contact regarding Andrew J. COCHRUM. My research
indicates his parents were James H. Cochram and Nancy Canady. I have three
years of research on the COCHRUM family in Western Kentucky, specifically
in Calloway and Graves County. Always happy to share information and work
with others.
Looking for an R. (probably Robert) COCHRUM b. about 1750 in NC who married
Sarah Unknown. Have initials of children, but nothing
more. Systematically searching census records, tax lists, land records,
etc., now. Anyone who might have a clue to cut down research time, I'd
would be most grateful.
Thanks.
