Hi List!
Is anyone out there researching Cochran(e)s who settled in Alabama in the
1800s?
As family tradition explains, my "Irish" (no proof, only stories) Cochran(e)
ancestor came to this country through Charles Town, SC.
I have:
Thomas Cochran b. 1787 SC m. Sarah;
Elison Cochran b. 1820 GA m. Elvira M. Jane Ward (Full-blood Cherokee); Dr.
William Jefferson Cochran b. 1847 AL m. 1) Margaret Jane Stephens (my great
grandmother), 2) Josephine Gibbs and 3) Frances Louisiana Beauchamp;
Dr. Joseph Edward Cochran b.1882 AL m. Bertie Mae Green (my grandparents).
I have lots more information and would be willing to share.
As you can see, my direct line migrates from SC to GA to AL as land opened up.
Do any of you have similar Cochran(e) migrations?

Does anyone have any information on Mary Jane
COCHRAN's family? She was born 12 April 1859 at
Jamestown, Greene Twnsp, Mercer Co., PA. She was the
daughter of William (1812-1862) and Margaret (WILSON)
COCHRAN (1820-1865). She married David E. RICHHART 15
October 1885 at Jamestown, PA.
If anyone knows of this family, I would appreciate any
help with siblings, burial site of her parents, and
(IF, I'm lucky) her ancestors.
Thanks in advance,
Keith Burgess
Great Grandson

You mention that your family was from Maryland. I am
looking for ancestors from Baltimore. John J. Cochran

I have some beautiful portrait photographs of the following member of the
Ramsay family. If anyone out there is related and would like copies, let me
know:
Lyman RAMSAY and wife Mary COCHRAN
Their son Fred RAMSAY, born 11/29/1864 in Orford and his wife Lizzie WILDER.
They were married 5/16/1893.
Winnie RAMSAY who I believe as Fred's younger sister, married Gilbert
COCHRAN, my gr-great uncle.
I am cross-posting this to the COCHRAN mailing list.
My COCHRAN line is from northern NH. I have a lot of info and photographs to
share on then also.
Steve
I need some help finding my husbands great grandfather. All we know
about Thomas Cochran is He came to Texas on a wagon train. We have found
him in the 1860 census in Hunt Co. living with Edwan L. Cox 31 Stock
raiser
Elizabeth C. 17
Thomas Cochran 12
Laborer born in Illinois
We found him again in the 1870 census Hood Co. Texas
Cochran, Thomas 25
Novellen 23
Martha 11 months
We know the they had these children Roy, William, Jim, Doll, Emma,( we
have found some information on her) Mollie, Amie, John.
We know that Novellen move to Oklahoma before 1900 we have her in
the census. She is buried here in Cordell where we live.
We think Thomas was born about 1845 y what we he found.
They are to have owned land around Paluxy or Glen Rose, Texas.
If anyone has any information we would appreciate the Help.

Hi. Was Peter a soldier for the Union or Confederacy? If for
the Union, it is
easy
to get the records from the National Archives. Go to any
search engine and
type
in NARA and you can get the form to request a Union soldier's
records. They
will charge you separately for the pension records (which have
beaucoups of
personal info) and for the actual service records. I paid
$10.00 each for the
sets of these for my great grandpa MCVOY whose wife was a
COCHRAN/COCHRANE
from MD.
Now, conversely, I "tried" to get a Confederacy record for my
great granpa's
brother
from them and they do not have them. Apparently you have to
contact the
state archives?? for whichever state they hailed from. Now
Ancestry.com and
a few other places have basic info about the record numbers
and pension
application
numbers, but you really have to get an actual copy of the
record to harvest
all
the important genealogical info.
With my great granpa's records, I determined he had another
child we did not
even
know about and that he was only ever married one time yet he
was 20 years
older
than his wife and good things like that. He was from FL and
his whole family
was
Confederate, yet he fought for the Union. I never ever knew
why. Then I found
out
from the records (they were worth every penny!) that he was
doing a machinist
apprenticeship in MD when the war broke out. I would've never
known why
without
the records. Good luck to you!
Bonnie Treon in NC
Becky,
First you need to establish what side he served on!!
How was his name spelled?
You would probably have to check all spellings!!
CSA index is available most large libraries.
THE ROSTER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS 1861-1865,
edited by Janet B. Hewett, Wilmington,NC:Broadfoot Pub. Co.
I happen to have the pages for Holliday name at home..
from Volume VIII, G. Hill to N.W. Jones, pub 1996.
>From M253-221---M253-254.
M253=microfilm of consolidated CSA index.
These rolls can be ordered from National Archives.
Some large libraries have this filmed collection.
You can also order thru local FHC libraries.
If he served from Tenn. the Tenn. archives would have a record.
I am not familiar with Union soldier index.
CSA records can be ordered from National Archives, Broadbent Pub. Co. &
also from the Daus. of the Confederacy, Richmond, VA.
You need special forms to order from National Archives. I am not
familiar with the current order number.

William Allen Cochran b. ca 1807 Tn, m. 1830 Newton Co., GA, 1840 Campbell
Co., GA, next door William Cochran.
There is a James Cochran in Newton Co., GA in 1820, said to be mine. No
proof.
Recently: James Mathew Cochran b. 1836 Morgan Co., GA, son of Mathew
Cochran of Ky, Morgan Co., GA and wife Sarah W. Smith (dau of Rolin &
Hannah Smith); had William B. Cochran, James Matt Cochran, Virginia C
Tucker, Elizabeth C Bradley, and Mary C Smith; children who lived Columbia
Co., AR.
Any help on the parents of James Cochran b. ca 1793 wife Anna Campbell
appreciated. Or the parents of David and Sarah McMahen/an, possibly from
Ireland. Barbara, LA
