Peggy Chapman's posting of 10/9 reminded me that I have been neglecting my
muddled Cochran/Cockrum line. I wonder if my John Cochran who wed Betsy
Cockrum in Hall County GA in 1830, can be placed as a sibling with the
William and James Cochrans she mentions, either one or both?
My John Cochran is found on the 1850 St. Clair AL census; it appears that
Betsy may have d. 1849. Children included Sarah Emaline b. 1833 GA, George
W. b. 1835 GA, William R. b 1838 GA, Collins (Call) b. 1842 GA, Lucinda b.
1844 AL and John B. b. 1849 AL. John Cochran has not been located on the
1860 census and the younger children were living with their older sister and
her husband.
It is presumed John Cochran and Betsy Cockrum were cousins, but no proof
either way, at least in my files. Betsy supposedly one of 14 children of
John Cockrum and Sarah Wharton. Have much to share on the descendants of
George, William and Collins, and a little on the lines of Sarah and Lucy.
After John Cochran's death between 1850 and 1860 the surname spelling
changes with the month, so later lines are a mixture of
Cockrum/Cothren/Cothern/Cochran. Help! helen wall

Helllo Everyone!!Awhile back I found the Cochran coat of arms, but I cant find it now.Does anyone know where it is?It was really pretty and very detailed. It seems like someone had it on the Cochran list. Please help I would like to make copies and give it to the family. Thanks ,Becky
GIZMO NEEDS OUR HELP!
I work with one of our local humane societies to help deal with the
incredible problem of
abused, abandoned and unwanted animals in our area. The need is tremendous
on a good day.
Yesterday, I met the newest addition to The Good Shepherd's efforts. His
name is Gizmo and
he is a little white wiry terrier mix with big pointy ears that kind of act
like radar. He
is a neat little character who walks into a room and lights it up, all the
while stealing
your heart while you aren't looking. Despite all of his troubles, he
continues to be friendly,
funny and a sweet little fellow to everyone. I don't know all of the
circumstances as to
how he ended up with The Good Shepherd but I was informed by our director
last evening
that at his vet visit it was discovered that he has a fractured jaw. We
don't know how
this came to be but it needs to be fixed.
Here is where I hope all of you will come in. The surgery and care that
Gizmo is going to
have will be very expensive but The Good Shepherd is a volunteer based,
no-kill shelter.
If it can be fixed and an animal given a second chance at getting a loving
home where they
will be safe for the rest of their lives, they do whatever it takes. So I
am going to ask
each of you to look into your heart and see if you can justify a few dollars
out of your
budget this month to help us, help Gizmo. This isn't a hoax and you can
check out the
organization's web page at:
http://www.dogsaver.org/goodshepherd/index.html
Each dollar you send is completely tax-deductible. Checks can be made out to:
THE GOOD SHEPHERD HUMANE SOCIETY and can be mailed to:
The Good Shepherd Humane Society
10 Dover Square
Sharpsburg, GA 30277
If you will mark clearly on your check and the envelope for GIZMO and
include a sheet of
paper with your name, email address and amount donated, I will personally
see that you are
sent a receipt via email to give to verify your donation to the IRS. Any
and all help you
can provide will be greatly appreciated and will give Gizmo a much needed
second chance at
the life he is supposed to lead.
If you have made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read this and
I hope that
you can find it in your heart to help.
Bright Blessings,
Angharad Truthsayer
aka Sandy Roberts
We within us carry all the knowledge necessary to create a beautiful
universe filled with love, laughter and joy. Begin today to find this
within you and share it with the world. You will find that it will be the
greatest journey you can ever imagine.

Saw 2 huge absolutely beautiful showcases at an antique mall in Austin,
TX. They were made by the Cochrane Show Case Company, Charlotte, NC.
(These cases were in use and not priced for sale.)
Anybody know which Cochrane Family owned this company and if it is still
in business?

Charles W. Bardsley in his Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames says: "
Cockerham, Cockram, Cockrem, Cockeram, and other allied names are derived
from the name Cockerham, a parish between Lancaster and Garstang. George F.
Black thinks the names Cochran, Cochrane and Cochren are of territorial
origin from the five merk-lands of Cochrane (old spelling Coueran) near
Parsley and Renfrewshire. Black traces these names from Scotch origin. The
name Cockrum does exist in present day Scotland. However, earliest migrants
of the name to America definitely were English in origin. Allegations of
Cockrums originating in Ireland appear, without exception to stem from 18th
Century migrations of "Irish Protestants" from Londonderry to South Carolina,
Baltimore, and other points on the Atlantic Coast. Many Cockrams, Cockrans,
etc., sailed out of Londonderry for the New World. These include the Preston
Cockrums, the Grainger Co. Tennessee Cockrums, and Hugh Cockram of South
Carolina.

Carolina.
