This is not my line. I was researching Baker in Bertie Co., NC.
We have many Cochran's and Cockram's in our tree. They wer primarily from VA and WV. Here is some of the information I have.
If you have anything that can help me figure out who belongs to who and how all these people are related ( or unrelated), I would sure appreciate it!
Martha Catherine Cochran (1858-1925), married to Peter Bennett (1851-1901)
Charles Cochran (1824-1919), married to Ruth Radford (b. bef 1881) (Martha's parents)
Edward Cockram Jr(1786-1867), married to Mary Rakes
Edward Cockram Sr(abt 1740-1816), married to Mary Polly Edwards
Samuel Cochran
The above people are a straight line. Martha is my great grandmother.
I have about 50 more Cochran's in my tree, but it's hard to establish the relationships of some of them. If your family is from that region, let's see if we can help each other!
Carol Sandberg
Just wanted to post this family that I was able to put together. I don't
know how they might be related to what I am working on, but suspect for now
that it's "possible" that this man (Hiram) is the son of the Hiram Cochran of
Baltimore, MD;
So if you're related to this line, or even just have some information that
might match these people - then please contact me. Maybe we can figure some
of this family out.

I received several Obits, from Dayton, Washington yesterday in the mail. Several of the them are of my relations. But there are a few here I am not sure who they are. If you recognize these people will you please email me so I can see if they are indeed also related to me.
1) from March 22, 1928
G. W. Cochran, Pioneer Passed Away Suddenly
George W. Cochran, an old resident of Dayton, died very suddenly last Tuesday morning at about 11:30 o'clock while doing some carpenter work at the Williams house on Third Street. He was alone at the time death occurred, and it was some time before he was found by neighbors. The sheriff and a physician were hastily summoned, and it was decided that his death has been brought about by natural causes. Funeral services were held from the U. B. church Thursday afternoon at three o'clock with the Rev. C. D. Pershall in charge and interment was made in the Dayton cemetery.
George W. Cochran was born in Boone county Missouri, September 1, 1847 and came to this country at an early age. He had been long a resident of Dayton, and was well known here. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs.. T. G. hehrick of Cheney, who was here for his funeral.
(Note* I have found in many of these obits that when they referred so someone moving into Dayton, Washington they said "moved to this country". At first I though it was a type-o on the reporters part. but after seeing that many time over, I don't think so.. And I know my relatives were in the US many generations before moving to Dayton Wa..So I don't know why they said moved to this "Country".)
2) March 19, 1959
Dixie Woman Killed by Car.
Mrs.. Grace Cochran, 79, of Dixie, mother of Mrs.. Leman Roy of Dayton, was killed at 7:43 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, when struck by a car as she crossed Highway 410 to enter her home at Dixie.
The Washington State Patrol office at Walla Walla reported that Mrs.. Cochran had stepped out of Mrs.. Roy's car and had started to cross the highway from behind a parked vehicle when she was struck.
Patrol officers started the accident was caused by poor visibility due to rain and the dark clothing worn by Mrs.. Cochran. The Dixie woman was dead on arrival at a Walla Walla hospital.
Driver of the accident cat was reported to be Richard Fulgham of Waitsburg. Officers indicating he probably would not be held.
For 58 Years
Mrs.. Cochran had lived at Dixie for 58 years where she and her husband had farmed. Her husband George, passed away 12 years ago.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, from a Walla Walla funeral home with Doctor Thompson of the First Methodist church officiating. Interment was at the IOOF cemetery in Walla Walla.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs.. Leman (Ena) Roy of Dayton; Ira Cochran, Jay Cochran, Allen Cochran, all of Walla Walla; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Will pass this on to the lists.

Hi Wendy. I just found this in my notebook from last trip to library-
(Rowan Co Public Library, Salisbury, NC)
There is a very skinny green notebook there called something like
"CHRONICLES OF COCHRANS" Compiled by Ida Cochran Haughton in 1915.
Has info on a WILLIAM COCHRAN on pg 60./ Genealogy of JAS.COCHRAN
on pg. 72. and the death of WM.COCHRAN on page 57. I doubt these
are my family, but possibly related somewhere along the line back in
IRE or SCT??? Also has info on a family name ZANE which I thought to
be interesting as my husband has ancestors from Germany in that
time period named ZANY.
I only jotted down a little because I assumed they are not my Cochrans. Here
is what I have:
William COCHRAN was killed by Indians at the siege of Ft.Henry at Wheeling
on 11-13 of Sept. 1782.
Pg. 72 Genealogy of JAMES COCHRAN, s/o WILLIAM
JAMES COCHRAN married ELIZABETH WOODS in or before 1800. She and her
brother were rescued from a band of Indians. She was reared by the
family of EBENEZER ZANE who led the rescue party that saved them.
JAMES COCHRAN and "BETSY" WOODS(she was born ca. 1772) had 13 children!!!
They were married ca. 1800. JOHN COCHRAN was b.1801;
JAMES,b.1802; JANE/JENNIE,b.1804; ROBERT,b.1806; THOMAS,b.1808;
NANCY,b.1809; WILLIAM,b.1811; ZANE,b.1813; MARY/POLLY,b.1814;
ELEANOR/NELLY,b.1816; ELIZABETH/BETSY,b.1822; ALEXANDER, "Little
ALECK", b.1820; VIOLINDA, b.1818.
That's all I have, but perhaps this can help someone. Bonnie

I found a very interesting book at the library:
I found a listing for a JOHN McBAYN in a book called "TO MD FROM OVERSEAS"
by Harry Wright Newman at the Rowan Co Public Library in
Salisb.NC ALSO listed was a JOHN COUCHAN (My great grandpa MCVOY
married a COCHRANE/COCHRAN)in MD, but my MCVOY was from FL.
This is SAD! "AUCTION OF JACOBITE(SCOTTISH LOYALIST) PRISONERS"
On pg 1, SCOTTISH prisoners sold in MARYLAND by ENGLISH. Many JACOBITE
citizens who tried to put the STUARTS on the throne of BRITAIN in 1715-1746
were captured, shackled and shipped to MARYLAND. Many of
these families were of "ancient and honorable lineage..."
Both JOHN McBAYN and JOHN COCHAN are listed on page 3 on a list of "REBELLS"
transported to MD on the ship 'FRIENDSHIP OF BELFAST." 8-20-1716.
Just something interesting and very sad about our history.

While out antiqueing today I found the following in a shop in Katy, TX:
License issued by the State Board of Medical Examiners on January 13,
1908 to J.C. COCHRAN M.D., of Coleman County, Texas, framed. Price was
$27.97
Certificate issued by Post Office stating that ROSA COCHRAN was
appointed Postmaster of Burkett, Coleman County, Texas, framed. Price
was $27.97
These were in a shop called Classic Home Furnishings on Hwy 90 in Katy.
There were also a photo of a woman in dress from about this time period
and a drawing of a man dated '19. I don't know if these were from the
same lot as the license, but are in the same location in the shop as
them. This shop buys from estate sales as well as taking items on
consignment. These items are on a graduated mark down and have 1 more
mark down to go in October.
Just passing this along - I have no interest in this shop other than as
a looker & shopper!

I'm compiling a brief biography of Fannie B. COCHRAN, for a reference book
to be published in 2001, & hope that someone on the list has heard of her.
Fannie (b. abt 1838, in VA) was the daughter of William (b. abt 1812, in
VA) & Catherine (b. abt. 1815, in VA). William was a doctor. Fannie
married Thomas DUDLEY on 6 July 1859, in Loudon Co., VA.
Does she sound familiar to anybody? I'd be grateful for any information
anyone can give me, & will happily share what information I've found.

Since I started the question about the 2 William Cochran's from NC & KY, I'll summerize what Richard posted and what I got from Coleen Fagen.
William (1) of Rowan NC, possibly s/o Robert Cochran m Jane Jamison
b abt 1789/1800
m 29 Mar 1824 Sarah Fleming b 1799/1810 d/o Cyrus Fleming
d ? (previous death date was a mistake)
Children:
1 Female b 1819/1825
2 Male b 1824/1830
3 Male b 1824/1830
4 Male b 1829/1835
5 Female b 1834/1840
6 Male b 1834/1840
7Male b 1834/1840
*****************************************************************************
William (2) of Madison, KY and Rowan NC s/o Samuel Cochran and Sarah Woods.
b 15 May 1753 (from Gravestone)
m 3 Mar 1789 Sarah Margaret Gamble
d 24 Mar 1821 ( from Gravestone) Rockport, Boone, MO
This William was probably born in PA perhaps Hanover Twp, Lancaster County. Fact 1 he did not arrive in NC ubtil about 1758. Fact 2 his mother was born in Hanover Twp, Lancaster, PA abt 1726. Therefore if the birth info is correct on his mother, then couldn't have been born in Ireland since his mother was born in America and he could not have been born in , Rowan NC since his parents did not move there until later.
Has anyone reviewed the Woods information yet?

Hello to those of you that have been working on the issue of the 2 William Cochran's - Baxter, Richard, Wendy, Coleen, others
(1) William Cochran of Rowan, NC
b abt 1755 prob not NC, perhaps PA or Ireland, is date based on estimated order in the family?
m 29 Mar 1772 (in Rowan, NC?)Sarah "Sally" Flemming (d/o Cyrus Fleming) d 29 Mar 1824
d is 29 Mar 1824 his deathdate or Sarah's?, and where?
(2) William Cochran of , Madison, KY
b 15 May 1753 of Madison, KY, How date estabolished?
m 3 Mar 1789 Sarah Margaret Gamble (presumably in Madison, KY?)
d 24 Apr 1821 Rockport, Boone, MO
Questions
1) are these the same person?
2) if not then Who are the 2 different fathers
3) which is fs/o Samuel Cochran of , Rowan, NC
4) Richard has stated that he couldn't have married Sarah Flemming. How did you conclude that?
Questions about William (1)
1) W1's birth date , estimated from what?
2) has anyone looked in PA for birth record yet. This would require backtracking the Woods journey.
3) What evidence do we have of the Sarah Fleming Marriage?
4) Where did this deathdate of William 1 come from? is it a mistake and should be Sarah Flemming?
5) Did at least one of them die on their anniversary? Odd but possible.
6)Do we know where W1 died?
7) what else can we find out about Sarah Flemming.
Questions about William (2)
1)How was his birthdate estabolished? I assume we don't know where. Did it come from a Family Bible?
2) we know he was of , Madison, KY. Any clues where he came from before that?
3) Is his marriage to Sarah Gamle in , Madison, KY?
4) his death seems well estabolished
If we can keep a discussion going and continue to look for more evidence, perhaps we can solve this or at least agree on a reasonable hypothesis.

>From notes Basil Shannon of the COCHRAN-L mailing list sent me, it seems
you have information on Lydia ROYCE's {mother of Mehitable FULLER, wife of
Glass COCHRAN (Jr.)} ancestry? The LDS' Ancestral File has several
conflicting versions of her ancestry--I am primarily interested, as one
line leads to a Hugh CAULKINS.
The COCHRAN line is my wife's. One of my lines, PHELPS, leads to Hugh
CAULKINS. He would be both of our 10 GGF, if the data proves true. Pretty
amazing, since 4 of my GGP and 6 of Karens' GGP weren't in the USA before
1870, and only one of her lines (COCHRAN) out of 16 at that generation
leads to New England.

Michael Stamm
