I am searching for information on the family of my Gt-Grandfather, Solomon V.
Cochran, whose last known address was South Jackson St. in Lima, Ohio in the
1900 census. He had five known children; John P., Bertha E., Daisy G., Ada
B., and Albert W. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
> any farther but has helped others on the net who have contacted me.
I fail to see how anyone can get any further back with just the IGI index
online without first eliminating the other 5,000 possible Joe BLOG(g)s, and
variations, unless of course your ancestors all had very unusual names ie.
Zebidee Rainforest ALPHABET. Stories on the lists are numerous about people
adding five or six generations from only the IGI if this is so I'm missing
something and will gladly be told how to do it.
You are probably as aware as anyone else that adding this information to
your own tree could and will be harmful to your own research without further
evidence.
I do apologise to anyone who gets this twice* and strongly apologise to Joe
Blogs and Zebidee Alphabet and any descendants of same.
*If you get this more than three times and you have ancestors in Scotland
please advise.

I am trying to trace my Cochran lineage, and have hit a snag on the fifth
generation. I can trace as far back as a man named Claude Carl Cochran,
born in either Joplin or Mount Grove, MO (1 Dec 1895), and died in
Vancouver, WA (March 1986). he married Ila Tower and father three
children, one of whom is my grandfather, Bernard Lester. the oldest child,
Lloyd Nelson, died at Normandy. the middle child, Vivian Lucille married
into the Liston family.
Claude is the son (possibly only child, I'm not sure) of Thomas B Cochran
and Grace Squires. I know nothing of Thomas, and only the names of Grace's
parents, she is the daughter of John Squires and Alma Alta.
John Squires served on the USS Constitution during the US Civil War. I
have been searching the databses of the Mormon Family History Center, and
haven't found a single clue as to where my family came from.
can anyone help with this? perhaps someone is descended from the same
line? any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Researching:
COCHRAN, LOCKE, MESSER, BARRETT, ANDERSON, TANNER, MCDONALD, HIERS, DOULGAS,
HART, GOINGS
Researching the surname COCKRUM, and in particular Nelson G. COCKRUM.
Sgt. Nelson G. COCKRUM of the Air Corps. Advanced Flying School, Lake
Charles, LA. circa 1941-1943.
I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who may have known Nelson
G. COCKRUM, or who presently knows him. I have a newspaper article that
was written about him and would be most happy to share that article with him
or any of his family members.

First - I agree with Jim Cochran, that if Rufus' parents were killed by
Indians in the 1850s or 1860s, it probably was not in either Kentucky or
Tennessee. Texas would also be a place that that could have happened.
Perhaps the first thing you should do is check the index to the 1870 Alabama
Census for all the Cochrans (And don't forget all the various spellings!) in
Dallas County. If Rufus were there and living with a COCHRAN family, he
would not be listed separately in the index, so you would need to check the
film for each Cochran household to see if he is there. If he were there and
living wtih someone of a different surname, he ought to be listed separately.
You could then read the film, see if you think it is your Rufus. If you do
find him, withe either a Cochran family or some other family, you could then
start trying to trace the family with which he is living since they are said
to be relatives.
Good Luck,
Mary Gregg

At that time frame, in TN or KY, I would think that there would have been a
trial record....and sure it would have been big news, since allmost all of
the Indians, had been moved by the gov't to OK territory.
Makes me think that maybe it happend in Kansas or somewhere on the plains,
and story got turned around to be KY or TN.
Related note....William, brother to my ggggg grandfather, John Cochran, was
killed by Indians while still a young man in NC or TN, around before 1800,
and John was killed by a black man named Jess, probably in Williamson, TN
between 1821, when his will was authored, and 1825 when it was "read"
Anyone have any knowledge of this murder? John was a slaveholder, have
wondered if it was one of his.
