I have been trying my best to follow all the discussion around the Emmetts
book, but have little point of reference for the work and the subsequent
questions and answers that have come around regarding it.
Although I've been lurking on the Cochran forum for a while, I have little
information on my Cochran having only just identified her over the holidays,
and am not deeply experienced in Genealogy.
I've been searching through the text of your messages, and book passages, to
find reference to the Cochran that I seek: Mary COCHRAN, b. ca 1848 near
Greenville SC, married John Bowen/Bourne Whiteside(s) in Buncombe Co., NC, and
died 10/1/1922 and buried in Riverside Cemetery in Asheville NC.
I can only assume that my Mary is related to those Cochran's that are being
discussed but have no direct relationship established. Can anyone give me
some direct pointers, based on what you know about this Greenville SC family
extension, on where and what line to search? I would be greatly
appreciative...
Thanks.

Looking for the family of Lewis Coughran/Cochran, b. 1811 in unknown
IL county. Best evidence to date puts his birthplace in southern IL, possibly
Jackson Co. His father may have been George Coughran/Cochran--the names
change depending on who wrote it down--because Lewis first shows up
on the 1834 AR Tax Lists for old Hot Spring Co in the company of a George
Coughran. But this is just an educated guess. I have found a George Coughran
in Livingston Co., KY on the 1800 census, and this county is just across the Ohio R.
from IL. However, another George Cochran, the son of the well-known Samuel
"Judge" Cochran also resides in Jackson Co at the time of 1818 Territorial census, so
Lewis may just as well have been related to him. One last bit of trivia: family legend
says that the first Coughran in our line came over from Ireland on a cattle boat and
disembarked in Philadelphia. Thanks for any help.
Am searching for information on an Endora COCHRAN that married William
TATE in Hunt Co.,Texas in the late 1800's. Does anyone have any
information on this marriage or their ancestors or children ?

Thank you for your help and good luck on your search !!!

GenConnect will be down for a bit on Saturday night and Sunday morning,
January 16 and 17, 1999, while it is being moved to a new box (bigger and
faster).
You will not have to change any links, there's nothing that you need do.
This is simply to let you know that GenConnect will be down for a period.
No "official" announcement will be made when it is back up. That will be
obvious when the pages are once again available through a web browser.
Yours,
The GenConnect Team

Hi! I am relatively new to the list, I have signed up in hopes of
helping a friend of mine. She was adopted, in 1954, and her adoptive
parents have passed away. She has been given a copy of her adoption
papers, and they are very confusing, to say the least! There are 6
different names for her mother, and 2 different names for her father.
She was born in SANFORD, FLORIDA but she was told that her mother
was from SOUTH CAROLINA, and her father went to TEXAS, possibly. If you
all could take a look at these names and if any ring a bell, and you can
supply any leads, I know she would be grateful! She has been searching
for years, and I'd like to help her, since I have access to the net.

Obviously, with all these names, someone was definitely trying to
cover up! But since 2 of the names were Cochran's, I really hope
someone recognizes something!
Thank you for taking a look, please let me know if anything connects.

I am replying to the message : <I'm researching Kathleen Cochran's family and
ancestors. She married William Green Murphy in Weakley Co., Tennessee on Dec
9, 1861.
John Goebel >
I have several Cochrans from Weakley Co., TN in that time frame, but I too, am
having problems pinning down dates, ancestors.
I am told (have not verified with hard evidence) that our Samuel W. Cochran's
father was Jacob Cochran, but I have not dates/places on them.
