This is my line of Cochran. I hope someone can help me with William in
particular since I have no idea where he was born, who his parents are or
anything. This family is believed to be of Scottish descent. Some think that
he may be linked to those Cochran's who lived in Surry, desendants of Capt.
Thomas Cochran of VA, but I haven't found anything solid except that the
family names are quite similar.

I am looking for info about and parentage of Harvey/Harry Anthony
Cochran.
he was born @ 1824 in Blount county TN
he signed up to fight for the Union at Madisonville TN in 1863
he served with the 3rd TN calvary
he was taken prisoner in AL and held in LA
he died in the Sultane explosion on the Mississippi
He married Mary Ann "Polly" Cunningham 12/19/1849 in Monroe county Tn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Need help determining ancestry and fate of William Leonidas Cohron, listed
in the 1840 census of Troup Co, GA. Theres a John Cohron listed in the same
census. I imagine the two are related but I dont quite know how. The
surname is spelled various ways through the years, including Cochran,
Cohorn, Choran, and Cohran.
Leonidas was apparently married to a woman named Eliza Jane. One of the
things I would like to learn is her surname. Ive been unable to find a
marriage record. They had several children: Nicholas (Green?) abt.
1839,died 1865; John H. Cohron  1841; Amanda Cohron  1842,died 1902;
Leonidas B. 1843, died 1930; and Nancy Jane 1844, died 1926.
A newly found cousin has done some excellent work and concluded the Leonidas
was descendant of a large family of Cohrons. His father may have been a John
Cohron, his grandfather Job, and his great-gfather, Cornelius. We just been
unable to find the definitive connection.
In any event, Leonidas apparently died before 1850. Eliza and the children
appear alone in the 1850 census of Chambers Co, AL. By 1860, she had
remarried to Thomas Sellers, with whom she appears in the 1860 Henry Co
census. She may have died or been remarried by 1870. A Thomas Sellers
married a Frances Jones in 1867 and they appear together in the 1870 Henry
Co census. An Eliza Sellers married a Ashely Simms in Henry Co in 1865.
Any help in pinning down Leonidas heritage, Elizas maiden name, and their
rather confused family lines would be much appreciated.

Sarah Cochoran married William B. Lowry in the Beaver County area of
Pennsylvania in the early to mid 1800s. I am looking for information on her
and her family. She had a son named Joseph Frazier Lowry. Sometime before
the Civil War, Sarah must have died because William Lowry and his son enlisted
into the 101st PA Vol. Inf. Joseph was 12 years old.
Joseph is buried in the Beaver Cemetery with his wife and 3 of his children:
Joseph F. Lowry 1849-1919 GAR marker #1510 [also known as J. Frazier
Lowry]
Jennie L. (or C.) 1866-1947 [wife of Joseph Frazier, maiden name was
McFarland]
Frank 1887-1889 [son]
Carl 1891-1891 [son]
Elsie B. Hollingbery 1889-1947 [daughter]
Is anyone familiar with the families of COCHORAN and LOWRY in the Beaver
County area?

Looking for any information on my great-great-grandmother, Florence
Elizabeth Cochran (Sept 1861- 1937). She was born in SC (according to
1880 census) or AL (1900 & 1920 census). Her father from SC and her
mother from SC or GA.
Her last name has always been thought to be Cochran in my family, but
in the 1880 Madison Co. AL census she is listed as a Corcoran along with
her brother? William Corcoran b.1862/3. In this census they are listed
as boarders in the home of the Deputy Marshall, Leroy Peevy. In some of
Florence's belongings there is a obit. notice on Leroy's daughter
Hattie, along with a letter from Hattie to her mother mentioning what a
wonderful and "true" daughter Florence had been during their association
with one another. Since I can't find any info on these two before
1880, I am wondering if they are not included in another household
(perhaps they were orphans?)
If anyone has information which might be of help please contact me.
Anything would help.
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi. I've recently joined this list. I'm seeking information on Letitia
COCHRAN, d. 1783, and her ancestors and descendents.
According to a 1898 family letter quoting the History of New Boston
(1786-1863), history, "Robert CLARK, of Londonderry, . . . came to this
country about the year 1725, settling on the height of land northwest of
Beaver Pond, and died in 1775; his wife, who was Letitia, daughter of
John COCHRAN, of Londonderry in Ireland, died in 1783. Their children
were William, John, Samuel, Ninian, Jane, Letitia, Agnes, and
Elizabeth." New Boston is in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.
My family history is posted at http://members.tripod.com/~arthowe/. I'm
happy to share information.

Harold Helm is no longer a RootsWeb member, and doesn't manage this
list any more. We're looking for volunteers to replace him; please
send me mail if you're interested. You do not need to be a RootsWeb
Sponsor.
Harold may want to set up replacement lists at another site. If and
when that happens, we'll let you know where the new lists are and how
to subscribe. That way, anyone who prefers his way of doing things
can unsubscribe from this list and join him in his new enterprise.
It's up to you.
Sorry about the inconvenience! We'll try to make this transition as
smooth as possible.
Regards,
Tim Pierce
