Lon,
This is what I have which I rec'd mostly from Tom Green in New
Braunfels, TX His e-mail address is TBGreen3(a)aol.com.
John C. Cockrell was from Nash County, N.C. He married Nancy Anne
Winstead about 1778 in Northumberland County, VA. Nancy Anne Winstead
was from Nash County, N.C. John Cockrell was born in about 1756 & died
after 20 March, 1809, in Nash County, N.C. Nancy Ann Winstead Cockrell
moved to Greene County, AL, after her husband died, with several of her
children, specifically, Joseph Jacob Cockrell, born abt. 1780, Samuel
Cockrell, born abt. 1786, John C. Cockrell, born abt. 1790, Nancy
Cockrell, born abt. 1792, Vincent Cockrell, born abt. 1793; Elizabeth
Cockrell born about 1783, Archibald "Baldy" Cockrell (my grandfather)
born abt. 1795 in Nash County, N.C. Archibald "Baldy" Cockrell married
Selah/Sarah Pridgeonon 15 March, 1815 in North Carolina; then moved to
Greene County, AL with Nancy Ann Winstead in abot 1810. Baldy moved a
lot and was located in a different state every 10 years when the census
was done. He apparently lived near Atlanta, GA in abt. 1824 when his
son ARchibald "Arch" Cockrell was born on 24 Dec., 1824. The family
apparently then moved to Itawamba County, Mississippi, where Arch
married Mary Minerva Hittson on 9 Apr., 1846. Arch moved to Texas in
about 1850 and first settled in Rusk County, TX, where Mary Minerva's
father, Alexander Hittson, was living. Mary Minerva Hittson Cockrell
died 4 Sept., 1875 in Van Zandt County, TX, & Arch married Van Burena
Rush on 9 July, 1878, in Tyler, Smith County, TX, while on federal jury
duty.
Archibald "Baldy" Cockrell's children were Berry Cockrell (my
grandfather, born abt. 1815), married Louisa Lann/Lamn on 13 Sept., 1837
in Greene County, AL, Remps Cockrell, born abt. 1817, Archibald "Arch"
Cockrell, Jr. (born 24 Dece., 1824, & being Tom Green of New Braunfels,
TX, grandfather), Arch having married his first wife Mary Minerva
Hittson on 9 Apr., 1846 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, Nancy Jane
"Evvie" Cockrell, born abt. 1825, married Matthew Johnson Abbott,
William Cockrell, born 1828 in Greene County, AL, Tilamy (Tillary)
Cockrell (female) born abt. 1832 in Greene County, AL, George Cockrell
born abt. 1837 in Alabama, married Margarett Bottoms on 15 Oct., 1865 in
Nash County, N.C., Martha Cockrell.
Archibald "Arch" Cockrell, Jr. & his 2nd wife, Van Burena Rush married 9
July, 1878 in Tyler, Smith County, TX. Their children were Dr. Lonnie
Lee Cockerell, born 4 June, 1879 in Roddy, Van Zandt County, TX (Tom
Green's grandfather).
Dr. Lonnie Lee Cockerell's children were Melba Dal Cockerell born in
Eustace, Henderson County, TX on 28 March, 1911.
Melba Dal Cockerell's children were Tom Green, born in Athens, TX on 17
July, 1939.
Berry Cockrell, my grandfather, born abt. 1815, or a little earlier
married Louisa Lamn/Lamm 13 Sep. 1837 (Source:1850 Itawamba County,
Miss. census). Berry's children were Joseph (my grandfather, born 1838
in Alabama), Elizabeth, Selah, James.
Joseph Cockrell (my grandfather) married Selia Noble & their children
were: Laura, aged, Jessie (female), aged 2, and James, aged 8 mths.
(Source: 1870, p. 50, Ashley County, Arkansas census). Also at this
time there was a James Cockrell, aged 23, living with Joseph.
My great grandfahter James Archibald Cockrell (Jim) married Carrie (??)
Elizabeth Miles, daughter of Leander Miler. They wre married by W. P.
Ketchard. Their children were Clinton Cockrell (my grandfather),
Gertrude (Trudy) Cockrell, married Oscar G. Smith, Donnie Mae Cockrell,
married Robert B. Radford, Ida Maude Cockrell married Floyd A. Harbison,
and Joseph Leander Cockrell, married Dwyce Cameron, Tom Cockrell, Louie
Cockrell and Ollie Dale Cockrell married ____________ Pierce and moved
to Austin, TX.
A Lila Cockrell was mayor of San Antonio for years. Her ancestors have
not been researched, but it is assumed rthat we are related some where
back.
Alexander Cockerll purchased the town of Dallas, TX, in 1852 from John
Nealy Bryant, and married Sara Horton who is responsible for the early
development of Dallas, TX. There is lots of data on him and his
ancestors that have been traced back to England in an effort to connect
with my line but have not been able to do so to date.
I descend from John Cockrell born about 1756, who married Nancy Anne
Winstead.
John C. Cockrell was the brother of Thomas Cockrell, that married
Tabitha Hatcher, & Joacb Cockrell, that married Penelope Williams. The
parents of these brothers was probably Thomas and Elizabeth Cockrell who
lived in York County, VA.
The parents of Thomas Cockrell were Samuel (born 1671) & Elizabeth
Cockrell. Samuel was the son of Thomas Cockerill born in 1624.
This is all I have on the Cockrells at present, & I'm afraid this is not
in very good order, but I've just rec'd most of this info & I still
haven't even gotten it typed into my computer yet.
Happy researching!

I didn't know if you had this or not, but it sure has a lot of neat
information and clues. Doris Noland Parton
Robert L. Cochran (b. Ga. 1815; d. Frisco/Stonewall, Chickasaw Nation, 1864)
went to what is now Pontotoc Co., OK before 1860. He m. Jincy Bohannon;
perhaps had more than one wife. His dau. Mary Isabella Cochran m. Tandy C.
Walker, nephew of Governor Tandy Walker, Principal Chief of the Choctaw
Nation. Mary Isabella and Tandy Walker had a large family.
Lynch Bailey Cochran (nephew of Robert L.) (b. Miss. 1846; living 1900
Chickasaw Nation) m. (1) Susan Burris; (2) Viola Toole.
James Virgil Cochran (brother of Lynch B.) (b. Miss. 1851; living 1900 South
McAleser, Choctaw Nation) m.Jenny --------.
William Hunter Cochran (b ca 1860; living 1896, Pickens Co., Indian Terr.)
son of Samuel
Hunter Cochran and Frances East, m., 1901, Carrie E. Hill. {One thing I
hope to learn is
whether or not this Samuel Hunter Cochran was the brother of Robert L.
Cochran, #1 above.
Robert L. Cochran (and maybe Samuel Hunter Cochran) were brothers of my
great-great-
grandfather, Augustus Owen Cochran, Sr. Lynch Bailey Cochran and James
Virgil Cochran were Augustus Owen Cochran, Sr.'s sons. There's a good deal
of information available on Robert L., who founded the little town of Frisco,
now named Stonewall. I have visited there and in Ada at both the Pontotoc
County Gen Soc Library and the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters, and probably
have gotten most of the readily available data.
I have almost nothng on Samuel Hunter Cochran, James Virgil Cochran and
Lynch Bailey
Cochran and their families. I'm not even sure that Samuel Hunter Cochran is
related to the
others, but believe that he is. I would like to find descendants of any of
these Cochrans, or make contact with anyone having information about them.
Will be happy to share information on the ancestors and siblings of these
Cochrans.
