Surnames: COCHRAN, WHITE, ETHRIDGE, LISTER, WRIGHT, SNOWDEN
My great great grandmother's parents were Hildah COCHRAN and William Harrison
WHITE. Hildah's father was Samuel COCHRAN, an early sheriff of Lauderdale
Co. MS. William Harrison WHITE was a later sheriff. Their daughter Mary
Jane WHITE (b. 14 Dec 1843 in Marion, Lauderdale Co. MS) married George W.
ETHRIDGE, son of Solomon ETHRIDGE and Rebecca LISTER. George and Mary Jane
had two children before George was killed in the Civil War. Mary Jane then
married James Berrymore WRIGHT (b. 11 Aug, 1832 in Anson Co., now Rowan Co,
NC later migrating to Cuba, Sumter Co, AL and then to Lauderdale Co. MS),
whose first wife had died while he was away fighting in the Civil War. They
had my great grandmother Annie Jane WRIGHT who married William Mercer SNOWDEN
of Lauderdale Co. MS. In 1900 these SNOWDENs moved with my grandmother Janie
Agnes SNOWDEN to Williamson Co. TX.
If any of these families are familiar to you, please let me know. I have
other information I'd be glad to share.
Many thanks,
Janet Sweet
