It has been a very long time since I last saw a post on this list I
wonder if it is still active or if everyone who is subscribed is just
"lurking".
It has also been a very long time since I last posted to the list. I
recently discovered some additional information regarding my brick-wall
Coburn ancestor, so I thought I should give it another try in the event
someone knows something.
My gg-grandmother (Mary Gean/Jean/Jane Coburn) was born May 1825
somewhere in Canada. Her father was from Scotland which explains why
one of her grandchildren described her having a heavy Scottish accent.
Her mother was born in Ireland. This from her census records. Canada
indicates "E" or English portion of Canada so unlikely it was in the
Quebec area.
She indicated that she immigrated in 1851 which means she was 26 at the
time. Initially I had thought that she immigrated with her parents, but
now I am suspecting she came by herself. I have so far failed to find
any immigration record or border crossing for her in 1851. I know she
was in New York in 1855 where she was married and living with my
gg-grandfather John Patton Millard and three of his children from a
first marriage in Schroeppel, Oswego Co., New York. That means they
were probably married between 1852 and 1855 probably in Oswego Co., New
York I am thinking 1855 because their first child, Jessie, was born in
1856.
The second child born to the couple was Hiram Dumont Millard born Aug
1858 in Iowa and was clearly named after John's brother by that name who
died in 1840 in Phoenix, Oswego Co., New York. The third and final
child was Frank Coburn Millard, my g-grandfather, born 12 Jul 1860 in
Sacramento, California where the couple relocated in 1859 after leaving
Iowa. This does not seem to have been a name used in the Millard family
so I have a feeling that it is possible he was named after Mary's
father. Am I looking for someone in Canada named Frank Coburn born in
Scotland cir 1800?
If anyone recognizes anything here I would be grateful to the
information. This is one of the tougher branches of my family that has
kept it's secret for far too long.
