I am new to this mailing list. I can see from searching the archives that
at one time there were others researching Abel Coburn and Phebe Dwinnell.
I am a descendant through their daughter Jane who married Ezekial
Crandall. Would be interested in collaborating with others researching
this line. Nancy
I have three John C Coburn's from the Letcher /Floyd area. One is John C,
born in 1902. He died in 1971 in Naples, Florida. His parents are James
H Coburn and Mary Ambergay. There is another John C Coburn born in 1872
and married to Jo Ann or Johanna Calhoun. His parents are James Polk Coburn
and Clarinda Neeley. The third John C (or Jno C) Coburn is the son of
Samuel (junior) Coburn and Mary ?. He was born in 1813 in Kentucky and was
married to Phoeba Prater. James Polk Coburn was his son.
All these Coburns go back to Samuel (senior) Coburn, who left North
Coarolina in 1775 and went to Kentucky with Daniel Boone. Samuel was the son of
James L Coburn who settled in Virginia from Pennsylvania in the early
1700's.
The Coburn/Cobun/Coeburn/Cobern's of Bland county, Virginia, Mercer/Tazwell
area of West Virginia, some areas of eastern Kentucky and the Lenore area
of North Carolina are all related. These Coburn's are NOT related to the
Coburns of Martin Co., North Carolina or the Dracutt Coburn's.
This is the family of my dear friend and I have been researching then for
years. I am also distantly related to them through our mutual Skidmores
in the 1700's. Contact me for additional information.

Wow! First new info in a long time!
I am descended from Amanda, daughter of John and Phoebe/a Prater. She was
my mother's grandmother. I'm 85 so it's a short line. Mother was born in
1901.
Would love more info or references when you have the time.
Have any idea what the C stood for.? Amanda named a son John C.Maggard (my
grandfather)
Thanks.

Laura,
We are in North Carolina newr the Virginia border. We are related closely
to Coburns in Bland Co. Virginia and in the Bluefield/Princeton area. We
are also related to Coburns in Kentucky. Where in Virginia are you
interested in?
