Hi Debra,
I would be interested in seeing the pictures of the Coburn men. My family
came from Alabama to Tenn. to AR and some went to Texas and OK. The names
are not familiar to me but they could have been cousins. My great great
grandad was William J. Coburn born in 1823 in Al and his father was born in
N.C. but I do not know who he was. I have some pictures of my Grandad and
his dad and an uncle.
Thanks,
Char
Had not heard of your Judge John Coburn & Dan'l Boone! Got curious ... I found an article that might be him at http:www.kypost.com/opinion/pieces100499.html
The name of the article "A killer named cholera stalked victims rich, poor" (Pieces of the Past column by Jim Reis) The newspaper is the Kentucky Post.
A Dr. James Wynn Coburn, of Maysville to be the son of the Judge.
"Born in Lexington on Jan 22, 1789, he was the eldest son of Judge John Coburn and Mary Moss Coburn. Dr. Coburn married twice. He and his first wife, Susanna Smith Doniphan, wed Sept. 1, 1809. They had 6 children. After her death, he married Mary Walton Coburn on 1 Jan 1826."
"Keturah Moss Taylor and Dr. Coburn's mother, Mary Moss Coburn were sisters. Keturah lived with the Coburn family for a while after the death of her first husband, David Leitch".
Dr. Coburn died of cholera 12 July 1850.
Judge helped set the state line. He was a man of statewide reputation, born in Philadelphia in 1763. He died Feb. 1823 and is buried in Maysville.
Hope this helps your search !!

Several recent replies have mentioned page #s and reference name #s--what

Have been stuck for over ten years on 4th ggf Judge John Coburn. Born 22 Aug
1762, probably in Philadelphia, PA. Died 10 Feb 1823 in Mason Co., KY. Dates
are from his headstone.
His handwritten note sais he was the "son of James", but no mention of his
mother.
Anyone have a clue about this?

Hi, I have been interested in the discussion of coburn families, I don't know
if there are 3 or 1. My mother was a coburn born in West Virginia. Her
father
was born in Kentucky as was his father. My gggreat grand dad was born in
West Virginia and moved to Kentucky. Robert Taylor Coburn 1885,
Thomas H. Coburn 1857, James 1832. That is as far as I have researched so
far, but it seems that James father will most likely be from W. Va. or KY as
well? Jeff Ridge

Yes, the branch of the Coburns that my wife comes from is working on their
line... Her Father, Robert COBURN, has done his best on remembering the
generations and checking around with family members. There is a reunion this
summer of their family where they will try to address voids in their tree! I
will check with him to see how comfortable he is in releasing the info on his

Hi,
You mentioned that there are three lines of Coburns. I have the CD
on the "Descendants of Edward Colburn/Coburn." It will be greatly
appreciated if you would list the other two Coburn genealogies. I'm
trying to trace James Coburn's family. He married three times--the
last to Lydia Ellis. It is this last family and their ancestors I'm
trying to find info about. James lived in Wallingford, CT where the
children of James and Lydia were born between 1757 and 1773. James
Coburn was married second to Irana Powell. The name of his first
wife is unknown at this time. I would greatly appreciate any help
that you or anyone might offer.

Debra,
I would like to see the picture of the COBURN men. If we connect it would be
probably in the 1800 to 1850 time period. 1846 NELSON F. COBURN was on the
tax list as a juror in Corsicana TX in 1846. In 1848 he was married to my
great great grandmother, Maria Parsons in Corsicana, Navarro County, TX. He
was not in the 1850 TX census and I have looked at lots of other census for
1860 & 70, but not found him. We have always beleived that his middle name
was Franklin. In 1850 census his only child Permilia Coburn was 2 years old
and living with her grandmother Eliza Parsons on the grandmothers land in
Navarro county. In 1870
married my great grandfather Napoleon Bonapart FRANKLIN in Corsicana and
they
moved a few miles away to Butler community, Freestone county TX.
Family story is that Maria died in child berth and Nelson left for
the
CA gold rush before 1850. I have looked in the 1850, 60, 70 census from here
to CA and not found him. The Parsons, Jones, and a Coburn families were in
Ar
in1840 census, of course I am not sure it is the same family that traveled
to
TX bewfore between 1846 & 50. The Franklins were in VA, NC, GA, TN, AL, LA,
TX. There are connections to Moore, Riley, Furgerson, among others. Mayhew
families also settled in Freestone & Leon Counties. Do you know where your
Coburns came into Oklahoma from. There was also Coburns in Leon County by
1850.
I have quite a few books and material at home that I have used for
research that I have purchased since I began my research in 1986. Just the
last few months I have had nerve enough to use the internet for research. Do
you have your Frank Coburn's parents in the 1880 census? If not I have the
1880 census and would be glad to look up the father & or mothers family.
I have many friends in Hugo, OK. Visited there in 1952, married and
lived there a year and moved to OK City for five years, devorced and came
home to Galveston. Still have friends there and visted there 3 to 4 times a
year untill my dearest friend of 40 years died a few years ago. Please send
the Coburn pictures and let me know about the 1880 cenus. Johnnye (Killough)

Hi,
You would not be correct in thinking there is only one line of COBURNs... at
least three genealogies are in print of different lines... check it out at

research that I have purchased since I began my research in 1986. Just the
last few months I have had nerve enough to use the internet for research. Do
you have your Frank Coburn's parents in the 1880 census? If not I have the
1880 census and would be glad to look up the father & or mothers family.
I have many friends in Hugo, OK. Visited there in 1952, married and
lived there a year and moved to OK City for five years, devorced and came
home to Galveston. Still have friends there and visted there 3 to 4 times a
year untill my dearest friend of 40 years died a few years ago. Please send
the Coburn pictures and let me know about the 1880 cenus. Johnnye (Killough)

Coburn List:
Hello, my name is Deborah Coburn Baker and I'm new to this list. The following is my research on my line beginning with my grandfather:
Clarence Magnus Coburn B: 1/1/1915 Texas D: 3/10/1990 Bakersfield, CA
Married Gladys Allene Bryant in Kettleman City, Ca in September 1940
Three children: Helen June Coburn (deceased), Vivian Juanita Coburn (deceased), Larry Dean Coburn.
Parents of Clarence:
Frank Coburn B: 10/16/1891 Braggs, Okla D: 3/14/1953 Hugo, Okla
Married Etta ?? (aka Maretta ??) from North Carolina
Two children: Cecile R. Coburn born approx 1912 in Texas, Clarence Magnus Coburn (referenced above)
Married Martha Rada Thacker in Llano, Texas on October 16, 1923
Three children: Arthur Coburn (deceased) and twin girls - Susie Juanita Coburn (deceased) and Rada Loretta Coburn.
**There is a debate on Frank Coburn's actual parents. My research has led me to believe the parents of Frank Coburn are William Riley Coburn and Alice Josephine Mayhew. All facts, rememberances, and information given in written correspondence from his only living child points to these two individuals as well, but cannot be confirmed. His only living child claims that the parents of Frank Coburn are Alex Coburn and Mary Esman, yet no evidence can be found of the existance of these two people. I am currently researching both couples.
**Other point of facts:
1. One known sibling to Frank is William Coburn who had 4 children, one of which was a son named Charlie.
2. This group of Coburn's resided mostly in the Bennington and Durant areas of Oklahoma, sometimes crossing into Texas. In approximately 1935 Frank's portion of the family moved out to California to the Coalinga and Kettleman City areas and then around 1940 -1945 moved back to Oklahoma leaving Clarence Magnus Coburn here with his new wife/family.
I have photographs of Frank Coburn and William Coburn, also one with Charlie Coburn in it, which I would gladly send to anyone interested in seeing them.
Thank you
