Being as my name is Johnnye and I am a female so I am assuming that you are
too and that Collier is your married name.
Things that would help other genealogists to know if someone is connected to
their line would be to list the following on any list/OR AS MUCH AS YOU KNOW:
When your father moved to AR HIS MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME
His siblings names if known. HIS FATHER'S MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME
Listing this kind of info means will help people that will carry your line
back.
Are you close to a library with a genealogy research section? There are many
across the county and even more info to search on line.
There is really no such thing as finding that someone has done your genealogy
for you unless it is a sibling or a double first cousin.
Believe me, as a 68 year old woman who has been researching since 1986, I can
tell you that it hasn't happened to me.
However!! Many WONDERFUL PEOPLE have shared and exchanged info with me. The
first year I researched, Lavonne Catchings of California sent me the a full
list of my three times great grandfather Bernard & Mary (Cleveland)
Franklin's children. Said she had been researching the wrong family for
seventeen years. I looked at the names of the children. Meshack, Shadrack,
Abengio, Jeremiah, Jesse, Bernard, Abner, Betty, and two others I can't
remember (I'm tryping from memory), names I didn't know, so I put it on my
desk. At that time I only knew that Pamelia COBURN b:1848 in TX to Nelson F. &
Mary Parsons COBURN, in 1870 m: Napoleon Bonapart Franklin who was the son
of David & Elizabeth Smith Franklin. A year later I was in Corpus Christi and
stopped at the public library. In the genealogical section, lying on an empty
shelf was an old tattered quarterly from Dallas County, AL. A well known
genealogist Pauline G. Jones had abstracted many old records. I knew of her
so I thumbed through that old quarterly. In 1828 David & brother Jesse
Franklin had sued sister Fanny Franklin Hill, for a settlement of father
Abner Franklin's will. Fanny had married Rydon Grigisby Hill. I had always
wondered why David and Elizabeth had named the oldest son Rydon Grigsbyhill
Franklin. This one case is what causes me to give too much rather than too
little info. I rush back to La Marque and have since been to AL several times
to the courthouses and counties to research. This may not be published
because it is too long. Maybe someone will write a form for info that is
important when you don't have much to start with.
Happy researching, Johnnye (Killough) Carlson La Marque, TX
Need help with family tree, just starting. I don't have much information
yet.
Sammye Coburn Collier b: 2-5-1972
David Mancile Coburn b: 12-3-1949 in Illinois d: 7-9-1991 in Arkansas
Samuel (Mance?) Coburn b: 1920's d: early 1950's in Illinois
Not much I know, if this sounds familiar to anyone please e-mail me.

Johnnye Carlson, thanks very much for your response. It is likely
that Jonas Wheeler is my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. If so, Jane Coburn is
my gr-gr-gr-grandmother. My proven gr-gr-grandfather is Thomas
Jefferson Wheeler. It is thought that Jonas is Thomas' father
because Jonas awarded, in his will, an equal share of his estate to
Thomas. We have not found any birth records for Thomas Jefferson
Wheeler who was born about 1809. The JANE COBURN who was married to
Jonas Wheeler was born in either 1771 or 1772, probably 1771. There
is a Jane Coburn who is a daughter of a JAMES COBURN--she was born
in 1791 in Wallingford, CT. I'm trying to find as much info as
possible in an effort to resolve the uncertainty surrounding whether
Jonas Wheeler and JANE COBURN are the parents of Thomas Jefferson
Wheeler. I will very much appreciate any help you or anyone might
offer.

Marion, my Coburn line is from New Hampshire, then Vermont. One of my
grandfather's brothers was a minister in Connecticut - but that was in
the 1800's. Contact me directly if you would like more information.
Thank you,

Marion, Why do you think your third grandmother Jane was a COBURN?
Who did Jane marry? Where? Approx' when?
What is the name of the person that you believe descended from Jane COBURN?
I have not proved my NELSON F. COBURN back past 1846 in Corsicana,
Navarro County TX, but I have a lot of COBURN and collateral lines that I
have collected over the years. I think that if you put the answer to many of
these questions on the COBURN list that you will probably get many replies
from other researchers.
On some of my lines the only way I could get past the stone walls were
by tracing collateral lines.
When I see your info on the list I will be glad to go through all of
my papers and research aids to see if I can help you.
Happy researching, Johnnye
Nan Wolf, I appreciate your message very much. Unfortunately, it
doesn't appear that there is a connection between my Coburns and the
Colburns you listed--Ichabod, etc. The James I'm looking for is
listed in Vital Records of Wallingford, CT as being spelled Coburn.
As we know, they are related somewhere in time and some Colburns are
listed as Coburns. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Carl Johnson, but I don't believe there is a connection to
the Wisconsin James. Coburn.

I'm searching for info on James Coburn and his family. He was born
in about 1741, married Lydia Ellis. They had eight children: Joseph,
Rebecca, James, Lydia, unknown first name, Irana, Jane, Benjamin.
These children were born in Wallingford, New Haven, CT. I suspect
that Jane may be my 3rd great grandmother. James and Lydia may have
moved from Wallingford, but this is just speculation on my part. If
they moved, I wonder if they moved to NY, MA, NH or Vermont I would
greatly appreciate hearing from anyone researching any of these
persons. I will appreciate any info or suggestions anyone may be
willing to furnish
