Fred Barnes, Fairfield, CA
Dear Jane,
1. Thank you very much for your inquiry.
2. Yes, Coburn is one of my family lines.
3. My second great grandmother was Rhoda Coburn, b 10 Dec. 1783, Ludlow,
Hampden, MA, wife of Asa Barnes, Deacon, b 20 Oct 1781, Farmington, Hartford,
CT. The Coburn surname ends with Rhoda Coburn in my direct ancestor line
when Rhoda changed her name to Barnes.
4. Rhoda Coburn's ancestors are: Zebediah, Jr.; Zebediah; Samuel; Edward;
Robert; Edward and Benjamin. The latter two, Edward and Benjamin, were born
in England. All the others born in New England.
5. I assume that the Coburns buried in the Woodbine Cemetery, Lowell,
Middlesex, MA were from that area, primarily Dracut which have/had quite a
few Coburns.
6. My Grandparents, my Parents, and my brother are buried in the Woodbine
Cemetery.
7. Regarding Isaiah Coburn, on page 103 of the book, Genealogy of the
Descendants of Edward Colburn/Coburn, 1913, it states that Isaiah Coburn was
born at Greene, Me., March 13, 1796, and died Dec. 13, 1888; married, Feb. 5,
1825, Deborah Larabeee, dau. of John and Jane (Brown) Larabee of Greene, Me.,
where she was born June 21, 1797, and died Dec. 12, 1829; they dwelt at
Greene, Me. Child: i. Florilla b. Nov. 18, 1825; m. June 21, 1855, Robert
L. Ellms of Greene, Me., where he was born Dec. 23, 1827; they reside at
Greene, Me. Isaiah married (2) May 22, 1831, Mary Merrill, dau. of Moses

William and Dorothy (Turner) Ham of Waldo, Me., where she was born Dec. 25,
1845 they resided at Bangor, Me. Children were Mary Elizabeth, b. Sept. 3,
1867; d. June 10, 1872 and William Waldo, b. Sept. 21, 1873.; Moses Merrill,
b. March 17, 1841, d Sept. 29, 1848. Isaiah married (3) Jan. 10, 1850,
Sarah Cutter, dau. of Samuel Cutter of N. Yarmouth, Me., where she was born
Dec. 24, 1798, and died May 31, 1890. They dwelt at Greene, Me. (Isaiah
Coburn's lineage is Isaiah, Jesse, William, Willaim, John, Edward.)
8. If you want to exchange information on the Coburns I've noted to you,
you're most welcome. If you wish a copy of anything it is easier for me to
make copies and send it by postal service rather than typing an E-mail.
9. Don't know anything about the town of Coburn in NH, nor Coburn Gore in
Maine.
10. My grandparents, Harvey Woodruff Barnes and Margaret Spafford, resided
on Coburn Road in Mt. Holly, Rutland Co., VT.
11. My wife and I have published a book on the genealogy and descendants of
Thomas Barnes who was born in England 1615 and arrived in Hartford, CT in
1635. Book contains 8,591 descendants, plus spouses in two volumes, over
1100 pages.
12. Hope I've answered your query and I'm sure I carried on a bit, but it
was good hearing from you.
