Hi again,
Alonzo Walter Coburn 1877 - 1918, Master Mariner
This Alonzo Walter Coburn in the son of Charles DeW. Coburn (Michael and Mary,
2nd wife).
Charles D. Coburn born 1850 and died 1916; Alonzo administrator of his estate.
1916 Jan 11
Charles DeW. Coburn died 11 Jan 1916. His estate was administered on l Feb
1916, No. 2895-A, abode - Hantsport. Hants County [NS] Court of Probate, Index
to Estate Files 1787-1992, Page No. 32, 18 Oct 1992, prepared by Leland H.
Harvie. Ancestor; s/o Michael(Francis1) and Mary Coburn.
About 1871-2 Charles married Maude Harvey, she being only 13 yrs old. They
only had one child, Alonzo Walter born in 1877. Sometime between 1878 and
1883, Maude had Charles declared died; he had run off to the circus and not
returned nor heard from. In 1883 Maude married Captain Marston also in
Summerville. She and the Captain had several children, one of which died in
an accident on Alonzo's boat. Charles had returned to Windsor by 1895 as he
is listed in the Directory for that year. His estate was less then 200
dollars.
An interesting note is that there is/was a Coburn Circus in Florida but I have
not been able to find enough history on it. There is a posting on the
GenConnect Coburn Board that speaks of the Circus as well.

Alonzo Coburn died 29 Sep 1918. His estate was administered on 14 Oct 1920,
No. 3270 A, abode - Summerville. Hants County [NS] Court of Probate, Index to
Estate Files 1787-1992, Page No. 32, 18 Oct 1992, prepared by Leland H.
Harvie. Ancestor; son of Charles and Maude Harvey Coburn.
Alonzo married Sabina Ann Chudleigh, b 28Nov1872 d 26Jan1968, on 5 June 1902
in Summerville, Hants, NS. They had the following children:
George, Burton Curtis, Glendon W., Mildred and Irma, all born between 1903 and
1918. For privacy I will not post any more but can provide you more if you
are interested. The newspaper accounts tell what shipping line he worked for
etc.
Alonzo died of influenza in a Boston Hospital. His Uncle Wesley Coburn
brought his body back to Windsor where Sabina had come to take the next boat
to Boston when the news arrived. It all happened rather quickly. He is
buried in Summerville and their home still stands today.
Jan
Hello Jan,
At this time Ive filed the Michael/Alonzo Walter
petition for a name change in my Coburn Miscellaneous
folder. There is nothing in the petition that indicates
he is the son of Michael Coburn of Windsor, Hants, Nova
Scotia. Furthermore, I have no documentation that
Michael of Windsor had a son Michael/Alonzo Walter
Coburn even though this may be so.
But, Ive ordered documents that may give the
origin of Michael/Alonzo and I will post this
information to the COBURN-L mailing list when I receive
it, which may take several months.
In the meantime, found at
<rootsweb.com/~nshants/mcalpine/hants/909.htm> is the
following from McAlpines Nova Scotia Directory, 1907-
8, Coburn Alonzo, mas mar, Summerville.
Regards,
Polly
