Hi,
I am submitting the following information to this list in an effort to
share my obscure COBURN information with fellow researchers and to see if
anyone recognizes the other names mentioned. There is a possibility that I
have COBURN cousins, but I do not know the connection yet.
Thomas Winthop LEWIS (1747-1831) and Hannah JOHNSON (1746-1830) [of CT and
Pompey, NY] had the following children:
Susan LEWIS m. Elihu AINSWORTH/ENSWORTH
Mary (Nancy) LEWIS m. Nehemiah AINSWORTH/ENSWORTH
Electa B. LEWIS (m. Russell MORGAN)
Thomas Johnson LEWIS (1774-1850) m. Lucinda ATWELL
Polly LEWIS (1775-1855) m. Stephen COBURN (1776-1829) [their dau Electa
COBURN (1813-1836) m. William PEASE]
William Russell LEWIS (1778-1866) m. Charlotte WRIGHT and Marrilla Goodwin
SYKES
Benjamin Delop(e) LEWIS (1781-1847) m. Polly MILLER [this is my line]
Does anyone have any clues on the LEWIS ancestry of Polly, the wife of
Stephen COBURN? Polly, Stephen and Electa are buried in Pompey, Onondaga
Co., NY.
I can provide additional details on the LEWIS family should this spark
anyone's interest.
Thank you for your time.

Hi Barbara,
I would suggest that if you want others to check there names files, you need to include
'where' and 'when' along with the names.

Hello from New Zealand.
I have only just stumbled across this list so here is who I am and what I am
researching.
I am Patricia Taggart and I live in Auckland. My paternal grandmother was
born Ellen Mary Coburn in Ashby-de-la-zouch, Derby, England in 1892. Her
Parents were James Coburn and Annie Stevens (Stephens). James was born in
Monmouth in 1866 and Annie was born in Gloucestershire, Eng in 1964. They
married in Birmingham in 1891. James' parents were Thomas Coburn and Ellen
Davis, Ellen born in Monmouth, Thomas ?.
I have a few other names but at this point I am not sure if they were from
Monmouth or just passing through. I am really having trouble finding
connections here and I am starting to wonder if the Coburns came from
Scotland or Ireland.
I have only just started on this family, so would really appreciate any help
or information you can share with me, including some basic history of the
family and name.
Thank you
Patricia

I am researching a Calvin Coburn believe to be born abt 1780 in CT but
documents are conflicting his father was listed as Alfred mother may
have been Sus(ana) but the second s is questionable He married lived and
died in Westfield Mass 1864.
I have searched an recorded many Coburn , Colburn and Corbin names from
Conn and Mass but Joel in this case doesn't ring a bell.
A Joel Coburn was b 12/22/1772 in Hampton, Windam CT and d 12/25/1867 in
Berlin Washington VT He married Alice Johnson abt 1795 in Berlin Ref a
personal GEdcom file from the internet
a Seth Storer Coburn b 1744 Boston may have married 1775 Elizabeth Day in
Springfield Mass about this period The name Storer and Coburn are
referenced in Maine about the same time. I believe a Seth Storer Coburn was
also a Boston silver smith. I am still trying to check if this is a
connection with Calvin.

Dawn, What is known about Joel Coburn? We are trying to track the parents of
my great grandfather Alonzo Colburn. born 1853. Information on him says he was
born in Ft. Wayne Co.,IN, but we can find no record of this. He and his siblings
were orphaned at an early age and each was given to a different family to be
raised. He didn't like the arrangement and took off on his own at 12 yrs. On
his marriage record to Elizabeth Kinney on May 28, 1878 in Menominee, Menominee
Co.,Michigan, his father is stated to have been Joel Culborn or Colburn. We have
always wondered if maybe, because of his young age when he left, Alonzo got some
of his information wrong or remembered in wrong at the time. Any thoughts on
that? Jane Limerick Monroe Littleton, Colorado

Sylvia,
I am sorry, I do not have a Jane Coburn in my records but I don't have any
siblings for my great grandfather who was William J. Coburn born in Alabama
in 1823 so who knows? His father was born in N.C. -don't know for sure who
he was but think that he may have been Theophilis son of George Cockburn from
N.C. I will keep your email and if I find out anything, I will let you know.
My great grandfather was Job Bell Coburn born in Tennessee in 1859.

Sorry I can't help you. I am not researching Coburns only looking for
descendants of Joel Coburn to pass on info to them.

It is so seldom that there is a posting to this Coburn site that I thought I
would take a chance and reply -- I am sure we do not have a direct
connection, but then again, who knows because I do not have any more info
than a couple of names. My Jane Coburn md Potter Brookins Brittain. No
date, but the grandparents on the paternal side that correspond to those on
the maternal side of this line were born on 1779 and 1801. Potter supposedly
was from PA. Have no info at all on Jane Coburn other than a name. Do you
have a Jane Coburn in your records? Thanks
